If you're looking for entertainment that's not all about Christmas, there are still plenty of events to be part of this week. Go to a folk concert, an art exhibit, a movie. Or listen to authors discuss their books about cooking, history and personal journeys.
You can join others to gaze out at the stars, learn about photographing them, or learn about women whose job involves space exploration. Or you can be part of activities that help local causes and local residents. Some ideas:
Wine tasting to benefit housing for Cape Codders with disabilities
FORWARD (Friends Or Relatives With Autism & Related Disabilities) will hold WineFORWARD, its second annual virtual “blue jeans” gala fundraiser featuring a wine tasting presented by Truro Vineyards. Ticket buyers are automatically entered in a 50-50 raffle and will receive three full-size bottles of wine. Proceeds will enable FORWARD to begin the development of eight new affordable supported housing units for higher functioning adults on the autism spectrum who need supportive care.

'Souper' Saturday to benefit Soup Kitchen in Provincetown
The Soup Kitchen In Provincetown (SKIP) will host its annual “Souper” Saturday lunch fundraiser at Tin Pan Alley during the town's Holly Folly celebration. For sale will be 12-ounce cups of hot soup provided by more than 30 local restaurants and other businesses. A cash bar will be open and there will be piano entertainment. Take-out quarts of cold soup will be available for $15 at neighboring Firehouse, 254 Commercial St., where SKIP merchandise such as T-shirts and mugs will also be available for sale.

Photographing the Cape and Islands after dark
The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History will present a "Milky Ways to Holidays" talk with photographer and Naturescape Gallery artist Timothy Little. He will share stories and images as he takes museum visitors on a photographic journey across the Cape and Islands after dark, including starry skies over the National Seashore, lights over Cape Cod Bay and the decorated streets of Edgartown during the holiday season. Little will offer some tips and tricks that went into creating these images.

View work by the artists of Saint Joseph’s Abbey
The Cultural Center of Cape Cod will host a reception for three art exhibits, including “View from the Cloister,” which features artwork in several media created by the Trappist Monks of Saint Joseph’s Abbey in Spencer. The Massachusetts abbey has several monks who practice some form of visual art: painting, drawing, collage, ceramics and textiles. The exhibit will be on view through Dec. 18. Also displayed at the center and part of the reception are the juried exhibition “Off the Wall” and “Tranquil Treasures of Cape Cod,” oil paintings by Joe Gallant.

New poster project revives old tradition
The Provincetown Art Gallery Association, born as a collaborative group during the toughest day of pandemic shutdowns, will revive an old tradition as a holiday fundraiser. The former Long Point Gallery raised programming funds each year with the sale of a hand-signed print featuring all of their artists. In an homage, the new gallery association has created a limited-edition series of archival prints featuring one artist each from 18 participating Provincetown galleries. A launch party for the project, which offers signed and unsigned prints for sale, will take place Saturday during Holly Folly Weekend. Among the featured artists are Salvatore Del Deo, John Dowd, Adam Peck, Helen Grimm, Marian Roth and Ellen LeBow

Cookbook authors to discuss latest book
The Falmouth Jewish Congregation will host a virtual Jewish Book Council Talk by the Monday Morning Cookbook Club, a group of Australian women who author a series of cookbooks together. They will discuss their latest book, “Now for Something Sweet," the result of an intensive search to uncover, curate and celebrate sweet recipes from the Jewish community in Australia and around the world. Alongside the recipes, they recount stories of family, friendship, community and survival. Books are available from Eight Cousins Bookstore in Falmouth and can be ordered in person, by phone or online.

Folk icon Tom Rush to play string of Cotuit concerts
Folk icon Tom Rush will be joined by singer-songwriter Matt Nakoa for three musical evenings filled with stories, ballads and gritty blues. Now celebrating more than 52 years of touring, Rush helped shape the folk revival in the ’60s and the renaissance of the genre in the ’80s and ’90s. James Taylor, Emmylou Harris, Tom Petty and Garth Brooks are among the musicians who have cited Rush as a major influence. His early recordings introduced the world to the work of Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and James Taylor.

Museum author talks delve into history
The Falmouth Museums on the Green will host two virtual talks and one hybrid event this week. At noon Tuesday, author Julie Flavell will discuss one of Britain’s most distinguished military families as portrayed in her book, “The Howe Dynasty.” At 7 p.m. Tuesday, journalist Stephen Kurczy will talk about his experiences in “The Quiet Zone,” Green Bank, West Virginia, home of the Green Bank Observatory. There, all devices that emanate radio frequencies that could interfere with the observatory’s sophisticated telescope are banned, but amid the residents seeking a simpler way of life, Kurczy discovered a lot of activity. At 7 p.m. Thursday, longtime ESPN writer Ivan Maisel will speak at an in-person and virtual about his memoir about loss, grief and love related to his son's disappearance.

'Rise Above' documentary screening
The Chatham Orpheum theater will hold a screening of "Rise Above," a movie about the forming of local nonprofit Cape Wellness Collaborative. The documentary tells the story of how the vision of one woman — musician Sarah Swain, whose mother died from cancer — led to its creation and signature fundraisers, Cape Cod Women’s Music Festival and Dancing With The Docs. A discussion about the collaborative, which offers a variety of services to cancer patients, will follow the screening and all proceeds will support the collaborative. Complimentary individual bento boxes will be provided by executive chef Jeni Wheeler.

Gather outside to gaze at the stars
The Osterville Village Library, working in collaboration with Barnstable High School, invites the public to a Star Party to explore celestial wonders with the aid of the Cobb Astro Park's powerful 14-inch Celestron Telescope and special camera. The professional-grade equipment affords a glimpse of heavenly bodies outside the solar system. Coffee and hot chocolate will be available.

'Women engineering for ocean and space exploration' webinar
The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution will host a webinar on "From the Sea to the Stars: Women engineering for ocean and space exploration." Participants will hear from four engineers who explore extreme places in the ocean and outer space. They will talk about hostile environments that demand special tools and people with the “right stuff” to test their own limits and push the boundaries of knowledge deeper into the unknown.
