Hiring of LSU cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond made official by Florida

LSU cornerbacks coach and recruiting coordinator Corey Raymond is leaving the Tigers to join Billy Napier's staff at Florida, the school announced Thursday.

Raymond spent 10 seasons as the Tigers' cornerbacks coach and developed seven First-Team All-Americans during his time with the program.

Heading into this season he was the Tigers' longest-standing active on-field coach and in the midst of his second stint with the program, after spending three seasons as an assistant from 2006-08 before leaving to become the cornerback's coach at Utah State.

His potential replacement is former Notre Dame co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Kerry Cooks, as it was reported on Wednesday that he was joining Brian Kelly at LSU by The Athletic.

The hiring of Cooks as a defensive assistant coach, with no position specific yet, was made official by LSU on Friday.

Raymond was a particularly strong recruiter, leading the way in the Tigers' success in landing five-star prospects Derek Stingley Jr., Eli Ricks, Kayshon Boutte, Kristian Fulton and Jamal Adams.

Florida's decision to bring in Raymond comes at a time when the Gators had just hired former Louisiana coach Napier as its coach. Napier was also in Louisiana recruiting on Tuesday, as he was pictured with uncommitted four-star running back prospect TreVonte' Citizen.

As a player, Raymond was a three-year starter in the secondary for LSU and played in the NFL for six seasons.

After his playing career, he became a defensive coordinator at New Iberia high school and went on to hold the same position at Westgate before transitioning to LSU in 2006.
