South Academy closed after carjacking and chase; officer reportedly injured

Feb. 2—South Academy Boulevard is closed between Interstate 25 and Drennan Road Thursday night. Multiple law enforcement agencies are on the scene.

Gazette news partner KKTV is reporting that an officer was injured in an incident that stemmed from a carjacking , according to Colorado State Patrol. It is unclear what agency the injured law enforcement officer works for or how severe the injuries are, KKTV has reported. A medical helicopter reportedly landed on a road in the area.

According to a tweet, deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office are assisting Fountain police near northbound I-25 at mile marker 134. The Colorado Springs police communications also tweeted that southbound Academy is blocked for police activity.

Law enforcement is asking the public to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
