South Africa bats first in opening ODI vs. Pakistan

PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa (AP) — South Africa's returning captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and chose to bat Saturday in the first of five one-day internationals against Pakistan.

Du Plessis returns after being suspended for the final test between the teams.

South Africa gave two players their ODI debuts at St. George's Park — inform fast bowler Duanne Olivier and top-order batsman Rassie van der Dussen. Limited-overs specialists Reeza Hendricks, David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo and Imran Tahir play, with Dwaine Pretorius and Heinrich Klaasen selected while Dale Steyn and Quinton de Kock are rested.

Pakistan also made a string of changes after losing the test series 3-0. Experienced pair Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik are in the team to boost the batting, and spinner Imad Wasim and seamer Usman Shinwari come in to boost the bowling.
