MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — South Alabama head football coach Major Applewhite announced Monday the promotion of five staff members to new positions for the 2024-’25 season.

Rob Ezell, who had coached the Jaguars’ tight ends group since 2021, was promoted to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Ezell’s coaching tenure began when he was a graduate assistant at Colorado State from 2012-’14. He also spent five years as a graduate assistant at Alabama, where he was a receiver and won a national championship as a student-athlete. As a coach, Ezell helped the Crimson Tide capture a national title in 2017 and 2020.

The promotion gives Ezell his first opportunity as a coordinator.

Will Windham, who had coached the linebackers since the 2021 season, was promoted to defensive coordinator and safeties coach. He has had multiple stops as an assistant at schools including Penn State, Georgia and Kent State.

Like Ezell, this will be his first stint as a coordinator.

Tre’ Williams, the special teams coordinator for the Jags, will continue his role with the special teams unit and coach the outside linebackers. Williams, a Mobile native, was an All-SEC linebacker at Auburn and has been coaching since 2020. He worked with recruiting personnel at Auburn following the conclusion of his playing career.

Williams’ coaching career started at Thompson High School where he won a state title and went undefeated. He’s had stints at UCF and Arkansas-Monticello.

Cameron Cleminson, who was a graduate assistant this past season with the Jags primarily working with the outside linebackers, was promoted to inside linebackers coach. He also worked as a graduate assistant at Cincinnati and Michigan State.

Kyle Skierski, who joined the South Alabama staff in 2023 as a defensive quality control analyst, was promoted to tight ends coach in place of Ezell. He played college football at UC Davis and professionally in the European Federation of American Football.

Skierski’s coaching career started at TCU when he was a graduate assistant for the Horned Frogs from 2011-’13. He also coached at Millsaps College, Birmingham Southern College, Aurora University and the University of West Georgia.
