South Amboy ferry to NYC: Everything to know about NY Waterway's new service

SOUTH AMBOY – The city celebrated the launch of its long-awaited ferry service to New York City earlier this week.

NY Waterway offers direct routes from the ferry landing at 100 Radford Ferry Road to Downtown at Brookfield Place and Midtown at West 39th St.

Ferries depart South Amboy beginning at 5:45 a.m. Monday through Friday with the last arrival in Midtown at 9:50 a.m. Evening departures from Manhattan begin at 3:15 p.m. and conclude at South Amboy at 7:25 p.m.

Free local shuttles run between Sayreville and South Amboy and the ferry landing. A trailer is on site for ticket purchases, while the new ferry terminal is constructed nearby.

The City Council approved a resolution earlier this year awarding the construction contract to Kyle Conti Construction of Hillsborough, at a cost not to exceed $31.8 million.

The permanent facility, which is part of the second phase of the project, will be anchored by a two-story ferry terminal and will provide 750 parking spaces for commuters. A second floor will feature a restaurant or banquet facility.

In addition, a waterfront promenade is planned to allow residents and visitors access to the city’s bay front.
