South Bay Festival Nixed Due To Coronavirus Crisis

SANTA CLARA, CA — The 40th anniversary Santa Clara Art & Wine Festival is canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, city officials announced Tuesday on the city’s website.

The festival was originally scheduled for Sept. 19-20 and was set to include more than 175 artists, local breweries, wineries, food stands and live entertainment.

The annual community event raises money for Santa Clara community groups and nonprofits.

“The Parks & Recreation staff has been in contact with many artists, non-profits, entertainment, volunteers, sponsors and others to explore feasible alternatives,” the announcement said.

“However, given the unprecedented challenges, the City will not be able to host the 40th Anniversary Santa Clara Art & Wine Festival in 2020.”

In a news release, the city cites "unprecedented challenges" and the current health order, which limits outdoor gatherings to 60 people including hosts, workers and guests, as grounds for canceling the event.
