South Bend Cubs force Game 3 with Lake County in Midwest League playoffs after 4-3 victory

EAST LAKE, Ohio —The South Bend Cubs forced a final game in the best-of-three Midwest League playoffs with a 4-3 victory over Lake County in High A minor league baseball Tuesday night.

Game 3 is Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in Ohio.

South Bend is pushing for its third league title, having won in 2005 and 2019.

Peter Crow-Armstrong led the Cubs offensively, going 3-for-5, including a double and a key ninth-inning home run. BJ Murray Jr went 2-for-3 with a double and Owen Caissie also doubled.

Riley Cole Martin worked the fifth and sixth innings, gave up one hit, two walks and two strikeouts to earn the win.

Lake County took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of first before South Bend was able to answer in the top of the fourth. The Cubs then scored unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take a 3-2 lead. Crow-Armstrong's homer in the ninth gave the Cubs a two-run cushion, Lake County managed one run in the bottom of the inning.

Joe Naranjo had two hits and an RBI for Lake County.
