South Bend Cubs return home this week with Bike Night, Mother's Day events on tap

The South Bend Cubs return home for a six-game homestand against Peoria beginning Tuesday at 6:05 p.m.

The minor league High A Cubs will take a a 9-12 record into the week after going 2-4 at Midwest League foe Quad Cities this last week.

Tuesday's opener at 6:05 p.m. will be a Triple Play Tuesday (Purchase a game ticket, hot dog and fountain drink for $13 in advance or $14 on game day). It is also Tail Wagging Tuesday when fans can bring their dog to the park.

Wednesday will have a special 11 a.m. start for the season's first Education Day. Select area schools will be in attendance.

Thursday goes back to a normal 7:05 starting time with the first 500 fans through the gate receiving a free t-shirt. Thirsty Thursday also includes $2 16-ounce draft beer and $2 24-ounce fountain drinks all game.

Friday is fireworks night with a 7:05 starting time.

Saturday is a special Bike Night with gates opening at 2 p.m. and the game starting at 4:05. Ticket packages available for purchase will include a Bike Night t-shirt, seating in the Budweiser Picnic Garden an all-you-can-eat ballpark buffet, free motorcycle parking and an on-field motorcycle parade. It is also Spin to Win Saturday, giving fans an opportunity to win one of six prizes including a PS5, Xbox One, 50'' TV or iPad.

Sunday will celebrate Mother's Day with the first 1,000 fans through the gate receiving a a free t-shirt. Fans can also meet the players during a pre-game autograph session from 12:15-1 p.m. and play catch on the field from 12:45 to 1:10 p.m. Game starts at 2:05.

First baseman Matt Mervis leads the Cubs with a .305 batting average. He has 18 hits, including three home runs and five doubles for 16 RBI. Right fielder Alexander Canario is batting .286 with 22 hits, including five homers, six doubles and 19 RBI. Left fielder Yohendrick Pinango had 17 hits while second baseman Fabian Pertuz, third baseman Luis Verdug and shortstop Ed Howard each have 16.

South Bend will continue its home dates next week as it will host Fort Wayne May 10-15.
