South Bend shooting Thursday afternoon leaves one man dead

SOUTH BEND — One man is dead following a Thursday afternoon shooting on the south side of the city.

Police say they were called to the 700 block of West Indiana Avenue near Chapin Street around 12:45 p.m. Thursday for reports of gunfire. There officers found 30-year-old Domenik Briggs injured from gunshot wounds and rushed him to the hospital.

According to a Friday morning release, Briggs died from the injuries he suffered in the shooting and his death is currently being investigated as a homicide. An autopsy is scheduled to take place Friday at Western Michigan University.

Police did not give any other information about the incident. The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the homicide and is conducting interviews and processing evidence, the release said.
