SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — Dozens of teachers, parents, youth and business people will take part in the annual Geography Quiz at 6 p.m., on Friday, March 24, at the Marshwood Great Works School in South Berwick.

The event, now in its 12th year, is sponsored by the South Berwick-Eliot Rotary as a way to raise money for an international effort. This year it will raise money for the Eben Ezer School in Milot, Haiti, which the Rotary has supported since 2008.

Each year the quiz draws hundreds of people to watch game-show style fun. Audience members are invited to compete for an audience participation prize. Twelve teams made up of two adults and two students of any age are ready to face off at the annual quiz in the Great Works School gymnasium.

As always, the audience will have a chance to participate as Mike Moloney, an executive of Kennebunk savings Bank who creates the quiz, offers up questions with themes ranging from flags and capitals to rivers and national parks.

Prizes are raffled off and pizzas and other snacks are available. Proceeds this year will be help support the Eben Ezer School in northern Haiti, a school that has grown from 35 to 500 children thanks to support from Seacoast families and Rotary clubs.

"Our school in Haiti continues to educate 100s of children a year, thanks to so many generous people in southern Maine and New Hampshire," said Lucia Anglade of Long Island, N.Y., the Haitian-American woman who started the school. "Even with the political and health problems Haiti has faced recently our school has stayed strong.”

In the past the quiz has raised funds for Rotary projects in Nicaragua , Colombia, and Colombia, as well as Haiti. Many local businesses support the event by sponsoring a team.
