South Brunswick's Summer COVID Cases Have Been All Young People
SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ —In a trend that started in mid June, South Brunswick continues to see single-digit increases in COVID cases, but it is now nearly all young people who are testing positive for the virus.
The vast majority of South Brunswick residents testing positive now are in their 20s and 30s. In fact, it's been more than 40 days since a person over the age of 65 tested positive for the coronavirus, South Brunswick police reported Monday, Aug. 10.
Additionally, the state Department of Health continues to list South Brunswick as having the virus suppressed at this time.
Across the entire state of New Jersey, currently 545 people are hospitalized from COVID, down from a peak of more than 8,000 in April.
Test results are taking longer to come back as more people are being tested, even those without symptoms. Test results can take more than a week to come back.
Since the outbreak first began, a total of 31 South Brunswick residents have died from the virus, 16 men and 15 women. The average age of a South Brunswick resident who died from COVID is 75. Half of all the people who passed away were living in or connected to long-term care facility.
