South Carolina drug operation leads to 19 arrests on 73 warrants

LANCASTER, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Nineteen people were arrested on drug charges in and near Lancaster County as the result of an operation that ended in December.

According to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, the arrests from the Multijurisdictional Narcotics Task Force were based upon alleged drug sales and the service of search warrants at various locations around Lancaster and Kershaw counties. Some defendants picked up additional charges based upon drugs reportedly found at the time of their arrests.

Deputies said 73 arrest warrants were issued, broken down by the following substances:

  • 18 for methamphetamine,

  • Nine for fentanyl,

  • Six for crack cocaine,

  • Four for marijuana,

  • Two for heroin,

  • One for cocaine.

Two defendants were charged with trafficking methamphetamine, and one was charged with trafficking fentanyl. There were 24 charges of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance in proximity to a school or park were made.

One arrestee whose history of convictions prohibits him from having firearms or ammunition was found in possession of a shotgun.

“The Task Force agents continue to turn citizen complaints and information they develop themselves into actionable intelligence that leads to drug buys and search warrants,” said Sheriff Barry Faile. “This operation netted defendants from young to older and included males and females spread across a wide area of the county. We’re out there every day working active cases and opening new ones, and lots of folks will be surprised next time we come around and take them to jail.”
