South Carolina football gets huge commitment from 4-star Georgia RB Dontavius Braswell

South Carolina received a huge commitment from four-star running back Dontavius Braswell after he announced for the Gamecocks on Saturday via social media.

Braswell (5-foot-11, 200 pounds) plays for Washington County High School in Sandersville, Georgia, 140 miles from USC's campus. He's ranked the No. 267 overall prospect and 15th at his position for 2023 in the 247Sports Composite.

Earlier this week he released a final four of Alabama, Oregon, Nebraska and Boston College although the Gamecocks continued to pursue after receiving one of his official visits on June 10. Braswell is the Georgia Class AA defending state champion with both a 10.76 in the 100 meters and 22.17 at 200 meters.

He becomes USC's first running back for the current cycle and second-highest ranked commit behind linebacker Grayson Howard (249th overall and 17th at his position), a Florida prospect who committed earlier this week. The Gamecocks move up five spots to 32nd and remain fifth among SEC programs in the team rankings.

The Gamecocks didn't sign a running back in last year's incoming class, instead opting for a pair at the position from the transfer portal in former Wake Forest player Christian Beal-Smith and former Georgia player Lovasea Carroll.

USC now waits for a decision from four-star running back Treyaun Webb from Jacksonville, Florida. Webb is ranked 160th overall and fifth at his position and announced a final five March 25 that had the Gamecocks along with Florida, Tennessee, Penn State and Baylor. He intially was scheduled to commit June 30 before delaying that without announcing a new date. USC received Webb's last official visit on June 24.
