South Carolina defensive back Jaylin Dickerson is out for the season, head coach Shane Beamer said Thursday.

Speaking on his “Carolina Calls” radio show with Todd Ellis, Beamer said that Dickerson had surgery Thursday morning. Dickerson missed the last two games with an ankle injury.

“Jaylin Dickerson, he actually had surgery this morning,” Beamer said on the show. “Went well, traded some text messages with him before I walked in. He’s in great spirits, so he’ll obviously be done for the season.”

A redshirt junior from Southern Pines, North Carolina, Dickerson represents another key loss for Clayton White’s South Carolina defense. USC also lost lineman Rick Sandidge and linebacker Sherrod Greene to season-ending injuries.

“It’s tough because when you talk about Rick Sandidge, Sherrod Greene, Jaylin Dickerson, those are guys who were gonna be in our two-deep if not starting before the season and right in the heart of the defense,” Beamer said. “So those have been tough losses for us.”

On the offensive side of the ball, lineman Dylan Wonnum (back) is also out for the season, Beamer said Thursday.

The Gamecocks (5-4, 2-4 SEC) are coming off a 40-17 upset of Florida and head to Missouri this weekend with the chance to reach bowl eligibility.
