South Carolina offers talented, young hometown receiving prospect
South Carolina football is busy adding players for Class of 2024 but still has eyes on the future.
The Gamecocks extended an offer to a local standout, Irmo sophomore receiver Donovan Murph, on Thursday night. USC receivers coach Justin Stepp visited Irmo today to see Murph, who also plays basketball for the Yellow Jackets.
The Gamecocks were Murph’s fourth Power 5 offer, joining Tennessee, North Carolina State and West Virginia. He also has an offer from Charlotte.
“Getting the offer from USC feels great. I always grew up watching them as a kid, so getting the offer still doesn’t feel real yet,” Murph said.
Murph took several visits to USC games this season and attended Gamecock camp over the summer.
USC has done well recruiting Irmo recently. Former Yellow Jacket Nick Emmanwori is a two-year starter for the Gamecocks secondary. The Gamecocks also have offered Irmo Class of 2025 quarterback AJ Brand.
The 6-foot-2 Murph had a breakout season in his first year with the Yellow Jackets. He caught 57 passes for 1,084 yards and a school-record 17 touchdowns this season.
Irmo went 10-0 in the regular season and advanced to the Class 4A Lower State championship before losing to South Florence.
