South Carolina WBB signee Adhel Tac to miss senior season with knee injury

South Carolina women’s basketball signee Adhel Tac — the No. 26 overall recruit and No. 2 post player in the class of 2024 — will miss the remainder of her senior season of high school basketball after dislocating her kneecap and tearing her medial patellofemoral ligament, she announced via X (formerly known as Twitter) Thursday night.

“I just want to thank everyone who has supported me this far, and all who will continue to do so,” Tac wrote. “As hard as this is I will get through it because I know God has a plan and He isn’t done with me yet. This ain’t good bye or the end of my journey , it’s only the beginning of a new chapter. James 1:2-4”

Coach Dawn Staley called Tac’s injury “season ending, but not career threatening.”

“She obviously wanted to play her senior year and is unable to do that,” Staley said. “But, we’ll get her here, we’ll get her right. She’ll be suiting up for us, and she’ll be playing for us. But she’s such a sweetheart. You hate for something to happen to the good ones. She’s one of the good ones. Great teammate, vocal leader, and she’s still all of those things. Unfortunately she’s got to be an assistant coach (now).

“But we pour love into her. She’s one that always texts me every game, ‘Good luck, coach.’ Like every game. So you don’t want to see any young person hurt in that way. But, surely if it’s someone that can handle it, it’s Adhel.”

Tac also missed the majority of her junior season at South Grand Prairie after fracturing her right foot last December.

At 6-foot-5, Tac is one of the nation’s best post players. Staley has spoken very highly of Tac, with great emphasis on her potential and comparisons to one of the best players to ever wear a South Carolina jersey as far as how she sees the floor.

“Adhel is, I would probably say from a communication standpoint, she’s more like Aliyah (Boston),” Staley said. “She sees the floor. She directs. She’s super athletic. She can score from the outside. She’s definitely pretty efficient with two feet in the paint. Upside is incredible.”
