South Carolina women's basketball signee Milaysia Fulwiley lights up McDonald's All-American Game

Milaysia Fulwiley offered a glimpse of South Carolina women's basketball's future Tuesday during the McDoanld's All-American Girls Game at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

Playing guard for Team East, the 5-foot-6 Columbia, South Carolina, native out of Keenan High School dazzled during a highlight-reel stretch in the first half of Monday's showcase even though Team West managed to pull out the high-scoring win, 110-102.

Fulwiley scored 11 points in less than two minutes during a one-woman run during the second quarter. She started with a step-back 3-pointer to cut the West lead to seven points, and then after a turnover, Fulwiley drove all the way to the basket with a burst of speed and a scoop-shot finish to draw Team East within 40-35.

Team West missed its next shot and Fulwiley was waiting for an outlet pass at the 3-point line, where she drained another triple, single-handedly cutting the East deficit from 10 points to two. After a pair of West free throws, Fulwiley unloaded again with her third deep 3-pointer and fourth straight scoring possession — her own, personal 11-point run that cut Team East's deficit to 42-41.

Fulwiley added a few more outstanding plays — another NBA-range, logo 3-pointer and a driving layup made through contact — to finish with 17 points.

But what might have endeared Fulwiley even more to any Gamecocks fans watching was the huge smile and enthusiasm she showed on the court. She knew exactly what to do on a national, showcase stage as a high schooler. Watching her college journey for her hometown team should be a fun ride.

Fulwiley is ranked No. 13 overall in the espnW 100 Ranking in the Class of 2023, and she's ranked as the No. 3 point guard nationally in her class after averaging 25.6 points, 9.1 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 5.7 steals and 2.7 blocks her senior season. She's even dunked in a high school game.

Tessa Johnson, another future Gamecock, also played in the McDonald's All-American Game. A 5-10 guard from St. Michael-Albertville High School in Minnesota, Johnson set a school record with 51 points in a game this season.

Notre Dame signee Hannah Hidalgo broke Sabrina Ionescu's McDonald's All-American Girls Game scoring record with 26 points.
