South Central boys, girls finish second at FC championships

May 15—ORANGE TWP. — The South Central boys and girls track and field teams both finished in second place behind Crestview on Friday at the Firelands Conference championships, held at Mapleton High School's John E. Camp Stadium.

The Cougars scored 135 points to top the girls standings, followed by the Trojans with 95 points. Monroeville (72) was third, New London was fourth (69) and Western Reserve (64) was fifth, followed by St. Paul (57), Mapleton (32) and Plymouth (1).

Freshman standout Angela Williams was the big performer on Friday for the Trojans. She won three events, including sweeping the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Williams won the 100 in 12.91 seconds and the 200 in 27.09 seconds, then won the long jump with a leap of 16-feet-6 inches.

Also claiming first place for the Trojans was Onalee Keysor in the pole vault, as her top effort of 9-feet-6 was a foot better than second place. Grace Lamoreaux won the 100 hurdles (16.37 seconds) and was second in the 300 hurdles (52.98), while Claire Osborn was second in the shot put (37-feet-1.25).

The 4x200-meter relay for the Trojans also took first place, as the team of Keysor, Lamoreaux, Kendyl Beverly and Williams turned in a time of 1:52.09. Finishing third was the 4x100 relay of Keysor, Lamoreaux, Beverly and Osborn in 54.7 seconds.

For Monroeville, the 4x100 relay of Delany Giles, Reece Kluding, McKenna Dunlap and Stacey Legg won the event in 52.77 seconds. Dunlap also won the 300 hurdles (52.65).

Also for the Eagles, Legg was third in the 100 (13.19), and fourth in both the 200 (28.68) and the long jump (15-feet-3.5). Giles was second in the 100 hurdles (16.9) and Kluding was second in the long jump (15-feet-11), while Braylee Wise was fourth in the shot put (35-feet-5).

New London was paced by Abigail Good, who won the 400 (1:00.94), then took third in both the 200 (28.17) and the long jump (15-feet-9.5). Reese Landis won the 3200 run in 12:31.39, and Kaitlyn Gum won the shot put (37-feet-6.5). Alyssa Henry also took second in the 800 (2:34.27) for the 'Cats.

Western Reserve's Aliyah Perez was second in the 400 (1:01.87), while Madelyn Kolb was third in the 100 hurdles (17.74) and the 300 hurdles (54.38). Kelsey Lasch was fourth in both the 1600 (5:48.46) and the 3200 (12:55.6), and Lillian White was fourth in the 100 hurdles (18.62).

Also for the 'Riders, the 4x100 relay team of Baylee Ruppert, Summer Thomas, Kennedy Latteman and Libby Weisenberger took second in 54.19, while the 4x400 relay of Madison Weiser, Weisenberger, Ruppert and Perez placed third in 4:37.69.

For St. Paul, the 4x400 relay of Abbie Stine, Ella Wangler, Sydney Endsley and Sarah Matlack won the event in 4:26.41. Maddy McCall was second in the 3200 (12:41.40), while Megan Lesch placed third in both the 1600 (5:43.27) and the 3200 (12:41.62), and Stine was fourth in the 800 (2:34.77).

Also for the Flyers, the 4x200 team of Stine, Endsley, Geralyn Mutchler and Matlack finished second in 1:54.03.

BOYS

Trojans add three more champs

After two individual champions on Wednesday, the Trojans added three more champions and a first-place relay team on Friday to finish in second place as a team at the FC championships.

Crestview scored 177 points to win going away. The Trojans totaled 104 points for second, while New London was third with 82 points. Rounding out the field on the boys side was Mapleton (49), Western Reserve (40), St. Paul (39), Plymouth (28) and Monroeville (6).

After winning the shot put on Wednesday, Mason Kiesel won the discus throw on Friday with a toss of 162-feet-7. Carson Music won the high jump at six feet, and also placed third in the 200 (23.7) and fourth in the 100 (11.63).

Trey Beverly won the 400 (52.39) and placed fourth in the 200 (24.34), while the 4x200 relay of Music, Parker Gray, David Lamoreaux and Beverly took first in 1:34.36.

Also for South Central, Lamoreaux was second in the 400 (53.59) and Braden Kiesel was fourth in the discus (125-feet-5). The 4x400 relay of Tyler Sage, Gray, Lamoreaux and Beverly placed second in 3:38.35.

New London's Tyler Twining won the 800 run in 2:01.22 and took fourth in the 1600 (4:41.71). Mike Dalton second in the 110 hurdles (16.96), fourth in the 300 hurdles (42.78) and fourth in the pole vault (12 feet), while Braeden Geist was second (10:21.95) and Cole Kropka was third (10:29.49) in the 3200.

Also for the Wildcats, Mason Bess was third in the 100 (11.63) and the 400 (53.84). The 4x400 relay of Elliot Stroup, Dalton, Bess and Twining placed third (3:39.15), while the 4x100 relay of Markell Mitchell, Brayden Shupp, Stroup and Denatrich Dawson placed fourth in 49.13.

For Western Reserve, Jonathon Fisher won the 200 in 23.43 seconds, while Jacob Jarrett was second in the 300 hurdles (42.03) and Aiden Beck was fourth in the 110 hurdles (17.71).

Also for the 'Riders, Fisher, Beck, Aiden Edwards and Jarrett each teamed up to compete in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. The quartet took second in the 4x100 (46.4) and third in the 4x200 (1:37.01).

St. Paul's Ian Deeter was second in the 1600 in 4:36.98 and Caleb Schwan was fourth in the 400 (53.86). Placing third for the Flyers was the 4x100 relay of Alex Stine, Alex Wynn, David Forrest and Gabe Bond in 48.33.

Also for the Flyers, the 4x200 relay of Schwan, Wynn, Bond and Sam Scavuzzo was fourth in 1:37.12, as was the 4x400 team of Schwan, Ethan Nolan, Deeter and Isaac Thimke in 3:39.21.

Plymouth's Caiden Allen was second in the 100 (11.45) and the high jump (six feet), while Layne Bushey also placed second in the high jump (six feet).

Area FC teams will compete at two district sites next Wednesday through Saturday. New London, Plymouth and South Central will compete at the Colonel Crawford district, while Monroeville, St. Paul and Western Reserve travel to the Gibsonburg site.
