South Central has two champs on Day 1 of FC meet

May 13—ORANGE TWP. — The South Central track and field program has been solid all season in the field events.

The Trojans continued that trend on the first day of the Firelands Conference championships, as the boys team had a pair of individual champions at John E. Camp Stadium at Mapleton High School.

In the long jump, senior David Lamoreaux leaped 19-feet-8-inches, which was a foot further than the second-place effort of Crestview's Tanner Moore. Standout thrower Mason Kiesel followed suit in the shot put, as his toss of 45-feet-11 was nearly two feet further than Crestview's Noah Stuart.

Also in the shot put, South Central's Gavin Sexton was third (42-feet-9).

In the boys 4x800-meter relay, the St. Paul team of Ian Deeter, Ryan Gross, Nick Centa and Isaac Thimke placed second in 8:37.13. The New London team of Cole Kropka, Wyatt Harrison, Braeden Geist and Tyler Twining took third in 8:47.28.

New London's Mike Dalton was fourth in the pole vault (12 feet) and his teammate, Brayden Shupp, was fourth in the shot put (42-feet-1).

On the girls side, Monroeville's Reece Kluding was second in the high jump (4-feet-8) and South Central's Onalee Keysor (4-feet-8) was third. New London's Kaitlyn Gum also placed second in the discus (113-feet-5). Claire Osborn was fourth in the discus (108-feet-5) for South Central.

In the 4x800 relay, St. Paul's Abbie Stine, Maddy McCall, Claire Ceccoli and Megan Lesch finished second in 10:35.81. Behind them in third was Western Reserve's Kelsey Lasch, Joslin Cain, Anastin Hoover and Aliyah Perez in 10:37.52 and New London's Esther Schmidt, Kora Landis, Reese Landis and Alyssa Henry was fourth (11:06.67).

With just three events scored, Crestview has 40 points to lead the girls standings. New London (13), Monroeville (11) and South Central (10) are the next three, followed by Western Reserve (8), St. Paul (8) and Mapleton (3).

For the boys, Crestview (46) is also in first, followed by South Central (28), Mapleton (20), New London (16), St. Paul (8), Plymouth (4) and Western (2).

Day 2 action, including the running finals, will be held at 4 p.m. Friday back at Mapleton.
