South Dade boys, Southridge girls win team titles in district track. Plus more sports results

During the District 16-4A Track & Field Championships, Southridge won the girls’ team title, and South Dade took the top boys’ honor.

Cynteria James led Southridge on the girls’ side, and Jamorian Harris helped lead the Buccaneers in the boys’ division.

In tennis, Divine Savior ended the season with state placing by two competitors, and in softball, Carrollton won two more games.

Tennis

Avril Rodriguez and Cata Kettlewell of Divine Savior placed second overall at the FHSAA Class 1A Girls’ State Tennis Championships in Orange County.

They won their bracket of No.1 doubles non-team qualifiers to reach the overall state finals, where they awaited the No.1 doubles winners from the team state finals. In a hard-fought title match, the No.1 doubles team from Community School of Naples beat them.

Rodriguez and Kettlewell are key members of the Divine Savior girls’ tennis team that won its second consecutive district championship. The Sharks then beat Riviera Prep in a regional semifinal, before losing to the eventual state champs True North in a region final.

By winning the No.1 doubles title at districts, Rodriguez and Kettlewell qualified for state.

Baseball

In the regular season finale, the Miami Beach baseball team came from behind to edge host Homestead 7-6.

Outstanding defense by centerfielder Jacob Gaynor and catcher Lenox Munox. Gaynor also had an RBI double and Munox two hits. Shortstop Jean Aleu doubled, and second baseman Hernan Caceres added two hits, including a double.

Winning pitcher Manuel Nieves received help from Alex Allocco, who earned the save. The Hi-Tides concluded the regular season 13-7.

Softball

Carrollton 3, Ransom Everglades 2: WP Madelyn Althage (9-6) 1 BB, 8 K; Isabella Whitby 2-3, 3B; Grace Diez 1-3; Veronica Franzino 1-3. Carr (9-6).

Carrollton 13, TERRA 3: WP Veronica Franzino (1-0) 2 BB, 1 K; Isabella Whitby 2-3, 3 RBI; Grace Diez 1-1, 2B, 5 RBI; Emme Moss 1-3, 4 RBI. Carr (10-6).

Somerset Academy Silver Palms 9, St. Brendan 4: The Stallions finished the regular season 23-2. Ava Stevens 3-5, 2 3B, 3 R, 3 RBI; Taylor Rebhan 3-4, 3 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI; Megan Porras 2-4; WP Edan Playa (15-1) 7 IP, 9 K.
