South Dakota will play No. 5 Houston in NCAA Tournament First Round

South Dakota Volleyball will play No. 5 Houston in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday in Omaha, Nebraska.

The Coyotes clinched an NCAA Tournament berth Saturday by winning its third-straight Summit League Tournament Championship game, 3-0, over Omaha. USD didn't lose a set in either of its two games throughout the conference tournament.

The Creighton will host the first two rounds of the tournament for the teams in USD's grouping, with the winners of the first two rounds set to move onto Stanford for the third round. The game time Friday has not yet been announced.

As successful as South Dakota has been in the last five years — qualifying for four NCAA Tournaments in that span — this season was one of its best. The Coyotes did drop two conference games, both to North Dakota State, but dropped only one game in its nonconference slate. It picked up a signature five-set win over Missouri the third game of the season before beating all three of Portland State, New Mexico and UTEP at the Borderland Invitational in El Paso, Texas then picking up a four-set win over West Virginia at Sanford Coyote Sports Center.

Before dropping its third conference game to the Bison, the Coyotes were in the midst of a 13-game win streak. It won the next 13 games after that, too, fell to NDSU again and then won out the rest of its schedule, including the Summit League Tournament.
