South Dakota State adds 9 on National Signing Day, including three South Dakota natives

South Dakota State football added nine players on National Signing Day Wednesday, adding to 16 that joined the Jackrabbits during the early signing period. It is new SDSU football head coach Jimmy Rogers' first recruiting class of his Jackrabbits coaching tenure.

SDSU had only one high school player — Steinbrenner (Florida) high school running back Kirby Vorhees — sign their National Letter of Intent, accepting a scholarship from the Jackrabbits as a member of its 2023 recruiting class. SDSU also added two transfers: Iowa State grad transfer defensive end Blake Peterson and Upper Iowa transfer cornerback Cody Cotton. Peterson is a Beresford native whose father, Brandon, also played football at SDSU.

Andrew Gustad, a Gayville-Volin high school football product, was added to the spring roster for the Jackrabbits after he early-enrolled at South Dakota State this fall.
