South Dakota State football to play neutral site game at Target Field in Minneapolis

South Dakota State football announced Tuesday night that the Jackrabbits will play a neutral site football game against Drake at Target Field in Minneapolis, home of the Minnesota Twins.

The game, which will be held Sep. 16, was announced at an SDSU press event featuring Minnesota Twins players Caleb Thielbar, Ryan Jeffers and Tony Oliva. The Twins were in town for Minnesota's annual Winter Caravan event, where players for Minneapolis' professional baseball team travel across the Dakota's, making at stop at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.

"We're honored to partner with the Minnesota Twins organization and want to thank our counterparts at Drake for their cooperation in making this game at Target Field a reality," SDSU Director of Athletics Justin Sell said in a release. "This game provides us with a great opportunity to showcase Jackrabbit Football in a location with one of our strongest alumni bases and also a key area within our recruiting footprint."

The game will be the third football game ever held at Target Field, the first two each happening in the last six years as it hosted 37,355 for then-Division III University of St. Thomas' 20-17 victory over St. John's University on Sep. 23, 2017 and 34,544 for North Dakota State's 57-10 win over Butler on Aug. 31, 2019.

The Jackrabbits are coming off a 14-1 season in which they beat the Bison for their first-ever Division-I FCS title.
