Jun. 30—SIOUX FALLS — A clash of 2022 NCAA women's basketball postseason tournament champions is coming to South Dakota.

South Dakota State, winners of the Women's National Invitation Tournament, and South Carolina, which captured the program's second national championship in six seasons this past April, have added a nonconference contest to their 2022-23 schedules, set for Dec. 15 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

"We are excited to be back at the Sanford Pentagon this season," said South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley. "As I've said every year, the way this event is run, the great arena and the incredible fan support make it an easy decision for us to come back and play in Sioux Falls."

"We could not be more excited for another opportunity to showcase high-level women's basketball in our state," added SDSU head coach Aaron Johnston. "South Carolina is an elite program and will be a great midseason test for our players."

South Carolina will be making a trip to Sioux Falls for the third-straight season having played three previous games — all wins — including two matchups with the University of South Dakota. Meanwhile, it will be SDSU's third time playing at the Pentagon, having previously competed in the 2021 Summit League Tournament and a 2019 game against Dakota Wesleyan.

Since opening in 2013, the Sanford Pentagon has hosted 16 NCAA Division I women's college basketball games including a double header last season featuring eventual national champion South Carolina, Final Four participant Louisville, Sweet 16 participant South Dakota and NCAA Tournament qualifier Arizona.

Tickets will go on sale Sept. 13., with a broadcasting partner to be announced at a later date.
