South Dakota State's Myah Selland reaches 2,000-point career milestone for Jackrabbits
Feb. 7—BROOKINGS — Already among the school's best players all-time, South Dakota State's Myah Selland reached a new level in the Jackrabbit women's basketball record books recently.
Selland surpassed 2,000 career points in an 82-54 win over North Dakota State on Feb. 4 in Fargo, North Dakota, bringing her to 2,005 points in her six-year career.
Selland, a native of Letcher, is the second Jackrabbit women's player to achieve the milestone, joining Mitchell native Macy Miller in the 2,000-point club, and is the fourth player all-time between the SDSU men's and women's programs to reach that point. (Mike Daum with 3,067 points and Nate Wolters with 2,363 are the men's representatives.)
Miller scored 2,355 points for the Jacks and along with Selland, they are two of only seven players in Summit League women's basketball history to score at least 2,000 points.
The 6-foot-1 forward Selland, who has played 143 games and started 131 points, is averaging 16.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, while shooting a career-best 83% on free throws and converting 42.5% of her 3-point tries. Selland matched a career-high 30 points on Jan. 7 in a win against North Dakota, while hitting seven 3-pointers in the win.
On Feb. 1, she was named to the top-10 watch list for the Cheryl Miller Award by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, which recognizes the top small forwards in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. Selland is also on the Becky Hammon mid-major player of the year list after finishing as a finalist for the award in 2021.
SDSU (20-5, 13-0 Summit) plays at South Dakota at 1 p.m. Saturday in Vermillion.
