South Dakota Wrestling Coaches Association announces award winners

Wrestlers from Sturgis, Burke-Gregory and Spearfish have earned Wrestler of the Year honors from the South Dakota Wrestling Coaches Association.

Reese Jacobs of Sturgis (Class A boys), Owen Hansen of Burke-Gregory (Class B boys) and Taylor Graveman of Spearfish (Girls) each received honors.

Jacobs capped a 52-0 season with his third-straight state Class A title (182 pounds). The senior finished his career as the all-time wins leader in school history.

Hansen went 46-0 at 132 pounds and also won his third-straight Class B title. Graveman went 48-0 at 132 pounds and also won her third state title. She went 92-0 in three seasons of high school girls' wrestling.

Region Coaches of the Year

The following coaches received Region Coach of the Year honors, which were voted on at the various region tourneys.

Class B: Shayne Geditz of Faulkton Area and Jerry Salanoa of Deuel-Deubrook Area, Region 1; Tyler Nolz of Elk Point-Jefferson, Region 2; Ryan Resel of Miller/Highmore-Harrold, Region 3; and Jared Webster of Custer, Region 4.

Class A: Mike Ideker and Cole Grocott of West Central, Region 1; Mark Ernster of Sioux Falls Lincoln, Region 2; Donnie Bowden of Aberdeen Central, Region 3; and Mike Abell of Sturgis, Region 4.

Girls: Matt Thorson, Pierre.

Other Award Winners

Assistant Coach of the Year: Skylair Jaure, Custer.

Junior High Coach of the Year: Bryce Leonhardt, Sturgis.

Press Coverage Award: Alex Dodd, Rapid City Journal.

Friend of Wrestling: Steve Rounds, Pierre.

The awards were presented over the weekend at the State AAU Wrestling Tournament in Aberdeen.
