South Dakota's season comes to end in Little League loss to Minnesota

Following a one-run loss on Saturday, the South Dakota Little League team saw its season come to an end, falling 5-4 to Minnesota in the Midwest Regional Tournament in Whitestown, Ind.

It was Minnesota who got off to an early lead, scoring four runs in the opening inning. Coon Rapids (Minn.) was led by Luke Harber on the mound, who for the most part, kept South Dakota quiet for when they needed it most.

Harber pitched four and two-thirds innings. South Dakota was able to answer in the third innings. Evin Edwards knocked in Max Vortherms following an RBI double. South Dakota wasn't done there.

Eli Hart who knocked in three runs via a homerun to left field, tying the game at 4. The teams were eventually knotted, but it didn't take long for Minnesota to answer back.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Minnesota's Chase Groshong singled into left field, which scored Teague Lewnau. That run proved to be the difference-maker.

Minnesota's Luke Harber finished his day with four and two-third innings pitched with nine strikeouts, two walks and four earned runs. William Weltz worked in relief for Minnesota, allowing two hits and striking out three batters.

For South Dakota, Kade Oehlke started the game, taking the loss. He finished his three and two-third inning performance with a strikeout, two walks, eight hits and five earned runs.

Talec Schlimgen pitched in relief for South Dakota, allowing no hits and one walk in one and a third innings pitched.

For South Dakota, Edwards and Hart led the charge in the batter's box with two hits. Henry Schmitz, Owen Rempp and Oehlke also had hits for Sioux Falls in the loss.

With the loss, South Dakota will exit the Little League World Series. Minnesota will advance to another elimination game.
