South Florida Fair weather: Weekend could start wet and windy

Winter storms continue to march across the country with South Florida expecting more scattered showers, breezy winds and possible thunderstorms Friday and Saturday.

National Weather Service meteorologists in Miami said Palm Beach County could get squeezed between a stalled front to its south and the tail end of a low pressure system developing over the Plains to its north.

That means clouds and a 20% chance of rain on Friday for the start of the South Florida Fair with high temperatures reaching near 80 degrees and an overnight low of 68. Winds could gust to as high as 30 mph with sustained winds between 16 to 20 mph.

The fair runs Jan. 12 through Sunday Jan. 28.

Saturday's forecast for Palm Beach County includes a 40% chance of rain during the day. That drops to 20% chance during the evening hours. The high Saturday is forecast to reach the upper 70s with a low of 58 degrees overnight. Wind gusts Saturday could reach 26 mph with sustained winds of 14 to 18 mph.

Although spotty rain is forecast through the weekend, meteorologists said it is not expected to be a washout with drier skies Friday and "low end scattered coverage anticipated Saturday."

Now in its 112th year, the theme of this year's fair is "Dive into the Fun," with a focus on marine life and ocean conservation with multiple shows and displays.
