South Florida may see thunderstorms on Monday and face a cold front later in the week

You may need a raincoat on Monday with thunderstorms on the horizon — and a jacket by Thursday night as temperatures could dip into the low 50s, according to the National Weather Service in Miami.

Sunday night’s temperatures will drop into the mid 60s across the Lake Okeechobee region and to around 70 over the east coast metro areas in South Florida, the NWS Miami reported earlier Sunday.

And the chances of rain showers will continue, especially across the eastern half of South Florida, into the night — with about a 50% chance of rain in Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

“With plenty of lower-level moisture continuing to move into the region on the easterly flow, the chances of showers will remain in place tonight especially across the east coast metro areas,” the NWS wrote on Twitter.

On Monday, it will be mostly cloudy in metro Miami-Dade County with a 50% chance of thunderstorms.

As for metro Broward County, it’s expected to be partly sunny with a chance of thunderstorms in the morning and afternoon. By the evening, there will likely be showers with a slight chance of thunderstorms, and the temperature lows will be in the mid 60s.

Both metro areas could experience temperature highs in the lower 80s on Monday.

The following day, the metro areas will be mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of showers in addition to high temperatures in the mid 70s.

The chance of showers will gradually go down Tuesday night and Wednesday. Though Wednesday night’s forecast is expected to be partly cloudy with a 40% chance of rain showers.

Expect a partly sunny day on Thursday as the chance of showers dwindling to just 20% with temperature highs in the mid 70s across the Broward and Miami-Dade metro areas.

By Thursday night, you may want to wear a jacket to stay warm. It’s expected to be mostly clear with the temperature dropping in the low 50s.

Friday will likely be sunny with temperature highs in the lower 70s. Into the night, it is expected to be mostly clear with temperature lows in the mid 50s.
