Region 4-5A Volleyball Championship

Suncoast (15-5) at Jensen Beach (26-3)

Time: 7 p.m.

What to watch for — Suncoast: The Chargers enter this match as hot as any team in the state with 11 straight wins and their postseason trek has been impressive. Wins against American Heritage in the District 14-5A title match and Sebring came relatively easy but the regional semifinal against Archbishop McCarthy came down to five grueling sets. It took a career-high 33 kills from senior star Zoe Zudans to get the job done. Suncoast relies on Zudans to lead the attack with her 342 kills and only junior McKayla Theleus has over 100 kills on the roster with 152. Theleus with 455 assists is a critical piece with her all-around ability that includes serving as she has 74 aces. The Chargers played a number of the state’s top teams during the regular season and despite their lumps they took, they will not be intimidated by the stage awaiting them but will need girls to step up as the Falcons will gameplan to limit Zudans’ ability to swing. Jensen Beach: The Falcons were not challenged much in their playoff wins against Pembroke Pines Charter and Okeechobee and playing last Friday got one extra day to prepare for this match. Floor balance makes Jensen Beach one of the state’s most dangerous teams and Friday’s win over the Brahmans, five girls had over five kills led by Furman commit Lindsay Walch with 15. As versatile as the rotations are for the Falcons, when Walch is on her game, defenses simply can’t recover to track the other weapons Jensen Beach has alongside her. Serving is an area that can make or break matches for the Falcons and in their two playoff matches, almost 30 aces have been served. Keeping balls in play and forcing opposing defenses to scramble is when Jensen Beach can break down teams and strategy is a staple of head coach Mike Sawtelle knowing where to exploit weaknesses and with a little extra time to prepare, Jensen Beach at home is extremely tough to beat.
