South Fork's Boyer, Martin County's Matthew score top 10 finishes at state cross country

South Fork sophomore Addison Boyer took seventh in the 3A race and Martin County senior Anthony Matthew placed eighth in the 4A race at Friday's FHSAA Cross Country State Championships at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee.

Boyer ran a time of 18:41 after going out quick during the first mile among the lead pack, trailing Winter Springs senior and eventual state champion Caroline Wells.

Matthew ran inside the top 10 the entire race and went under 16 minutes for the second straight race, going in 15:56.0 to finish his high school career strong.

John Carroll Catholic junior Grace Reed scored a 15th place finish in the 1A race, chopping off over 16 seconds from her prior personal best with a time of 19:36.6.

Pine School eighth grader Emerson Brinn also broke her personal record, running 20:05.5 to take 22nd overall in 1A.

Jensen Beach junior Justin Cannata finished in 38th overall in the 3A race, blowing away his prior personal best time by over 15 seconds with a time of 16:49.3.

Pine School eighth grader Fripp Stringfellow took 40th place in 1A, running a time of 20:54.3.

South Fork senior Jack Burgener finished 53rd overall in 3A, running a time of 16:59.5.

Sebastian River freshman Colton Russano and sophomore Caleb Wilkinson each ran personal best times with Russano going in 17:07.3 to finish 61st in 3A and Wilkinson running 17:09.3 to take 64th.

Fort Pierce Westwood senior Sofia Tovar closed out her season setting a new personal best time of 20:31.7 to finish 64th overall.

Pine School's girls had the highest team finish of any local program, taking 12th in 1A, where John Carroll finished in 25th.

Sebastian River's boys, who were led by Russano, Wilkinson and Noah McMann all running personal best races, took 15th in 3A. South Fork came in 18th and Jensen Beach finished in 30th.

South Fork's girls brought home a 19th place finish in 3A.
