South Jordan man sentenced for murder of 19-year-old at local graduation party

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC4) — A South Jordan man has been sentenced for the 2021 murder of 19-year-old Kelly Glaubensklee at a local graduation party, according to the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office.

Anthony Dominic Rendon, 20, was sentenced in the Third District Court Friday to 15 years to life in prison for first-degree felony murder and three to five years for one count of third-degree felony discharge of a firearm, to be served consecutively. Rendon was also sentenced to three to five years for each of the remaining nine counts of third-degree felony discharge of a firearm, all to be served concurrently to the other part of his sentence.

The murder occurred while Rendon attended a graduation party on June 6, 2021 with several friends. During the party, two different groups, including Rendon’s group of friends, got into a fight.

The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office said Rendon and three others had left but returned a few minutes later and got into another fight.

After the second fight, they got back into their car to leave, when people at the party started kicking their car. The driver started to pull away but stopped to let one more friend into the car. After their friend was in, prosecutors said Rendon fired more than 10 shots, one of which hit and killed Kelly Glaubensklee.

On Tuesday, Dec. 19, more than two years after the shooting, a jury found Rendon guilty of murder as well as 11 counts of third-degree felony discharge of a firearm.

In a GoFundMe set up after the shooting, Glaubensklee was described as “one of a kind” who walked with his head held high and a smile that could fix just about anything.

“He was big and tough but as soon as he grinned you could see that he had the sweetest heart,” wrote Daizha Jake, the organizer of the fundraiser. “If you were lucky enough to be his friend, you know that he’d do anything and support you through it all in hopes to make you happy and feel validated.”

The GoFundMe raised over $26,000 by the time it ended.

“We appreciate Judge Pettit considering the gravity of the crimes committed by the defendant and the danger he posed to our entire community when she sentenced him to a minimum of nearly 20 years in prison,” said Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill. “We thank the work of our prosecutors, Adrianna Davis and Brett Keeler, as well as their staff, for the years of work on this case. We appreciate the work of our partners in law enforcement at the South Jordan Police Department, who conducted a thorough investigation.”
