South Lake Tahoe has new parking rules near Heavenly Valley. Here’s what visitors should know
South Lake Tahoe is taking steps to reduce parking congestion this ski season.
The city recently launched a new seasonal residential parking permit program while creating no-parking and residential parking zones in the neighborhood surrounding Heavenly Valley. The goal is to minimize the impact of non-residential parking on neighborhood streets near the California Base side of the resort.
“Residents of the Heavenly Valley neighborhood have been severely impacted with traffic congestion, overflow parking, illegal parking, and general nuisance in the area during winter periods,” the city’s announcement said.
Heavenly Mountain Resort opens its ski season Nov. 17.
Residents will be allowed up to five residential parking permits, including a pair of guest permits. Visitors to the area will be encouraged to used designated parking sites and local transit.
The seasonal restrictions began Nov. 1 and last through May 1 — while the normal prohibitions of street parking during snow removal still apply.
The city says the South Lake Tahoe Police Department will begin issuing residential parking permits on Friday by appointment only. More information, including a link to download application forms can be found on the city website.
