South Memphis shooting sends two to hospital

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A shooting in South Memphis sent two people to Regional One in critical condition Wednesday.

Police say they responded at 12:55 to a store at 1908 S. Lauderdale at Orleans and at the intersection of Wynton and Fernwood.

A male victim was found at each location.

Police said the shooting actually happened in the 1900 block of Belmar. All three scenes are within a few blocks of each other.

A vehicle with bullet holes was also seen in front of the Rosewood Market. WREG crews say they counted up to 60 evidence markers on the scene.

One South Memphis resident says he heard the gunshots from his home, which was several blocks away.

“I was in my room, next thing you know I heard a lot of gun sounds like its fireworks until I went outside and saw a bunch of police in the street,” said Davidyon Smith. “I know I heard over 150 shots.”

So far, no arrests have been made.

Officer Carlson with the Memphis Police Department says, “We’re gonna be looking to figure out exactly what happened by speaking to our victims, canvassing in the area for video, and then also if there were any witnesses in the area, we need you to contact CrimeStoppers at 901528CASH.”
