A South Milwaukee High School teacher has been placed on leave after an 'incident' with a student
A South Milwaukee High School teacher has been placed on administrative leave following an unspecified "incident" with a student.
The South Milwaukee School District on Jan. 25 released a statement about the incident, which occurred as students were leaving school on Jan. 23.
Allegations of a physical altercation between a SMHS teacher and student surfaced on social media the day following the incident. South Milwaukee Police confirmed an arrest was made in the incident, but would not release any further information, citing an active investigation.
The school district called investigations into student and teacher interactions "extremely serious," but also refused to elaborate on the nature of the encounter.
“We respect the privacy and confidentiality of our students,” the district said. “There is also a need to maintain the integrity of the investigation to obtain a final determination of the circumstances and any resulting decisions.”
The district also said "counselors and other staff members are available to any students who want to talk to an adult or who are upset by the news of the incident."
This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
