South Nassau Golf Outing Set For Sept. 14
OCEANSIDE, NY — Mount Sinai South Nassau's annual Golf Outing usually honors one or two people for their contributions to the community. The hospital is continue that tradition this year, but on a larger scale. The 2020 Golf Outing will honor South Nassau's 3,565 doctors, nurses and staff for their work during the coronavirus pandemic, and the funds raised will benefit the hospital's COVID-19 Relief Fund.
Revamped and rescheduled to Sept. 14 because of the pandemic, the outing will be held at The Seawane Club in Hewlett Harbor and the Rockaway Hunting Club in Lawrence. Golfing is permitted under state guidelines with the right safety precautions in place, and the outing will adhere to the New York State Department of Health’s COVID-19 pandemic guidelines for golf events.
A series of precautions will be in place to ensure the safety of golfers and to maintain social distancing, including one group per tee box and green, driver-only golf carts, no caddies and elimination of high-touch areas like sand bunker rakes. All participants will have the choice of an morning or afternoon shotgun time – 8 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. – at either club.
“Our golf tournament is a widely anticipated event and a major fundraiser for the hospital. We are thrilled to announce the rescheduled date and offer our supporters an opportunity to safely enjoy a round of golf while honoring the heroic efforts of all the Mount Sinai South Nassau employees who answered the call of duty during the COVID-19 pandemic, which hit our community so hard,” said Richard J. Murphy, Mount Sinai South Nassau president and CEO. “I invite golf lovers throughout Long Island to join us as we celebrate and thank the Mount Sinai South Nassau healthcare team.”
Mount Sinai South Nassau, located in Oceanside, surged capacity to more than 500 beds to care for the seriously ill patients who streamed into its emergency department during March, April and May. The full spectrum of the hospital’s clinical and administrative departments was completely overhauled to execute delivery of specialized, critical medical care tailored specifically to the needs of more than 1,380 COVID-positive patients it admitted and treated with serious and life-threatening illness.
The 2019 Golf Outing raised nearly $600,000 with a net of $381,000,000, a new record for the annual event. This year’s outing will be a more individually catered golfing experience that adheres to the current safety guidelines set by the state. There will be one foursome starting on each hole. While there will be enhanced food and beverages on the courses, there will be no formal dinner.
