Oh my god, they've not killed Kenny! Or Cartman! Or Kyle! Or Stan! Yes, despite the show's own creators desperately hoping for a cancellation, it seems South Park will be staying put for a while yet.

Following Trey Parker and Matt Stone's (failed) #CancelSouthPark campaign, US network Comedy Central has confirmed that the irreverent animation will be on its books for three more seasons – and probably more.

Crack out the Pabst Blue Ribbon, folks!

Ahead of the cartoon's 23rd season later this month (and its 300th episode), Comedy Central announced plans to air the series until its 26th run, as long as Trey and Matt are also on board.

In a statement (via TVLine), the creators said: "Apparently, our efforts to get our own show cancelled have fallen short. Luckily, we love Comedy Central... and our staff, so we are looking forward to new cancellation opportunities in the next few years."

Comedy Central's president Kent Alterman kept the pair sweet by calling South Park "the greatest comedy in the history of television, unmatched in its satirical strength and cultural relevancy".

"If humanity is still intact in 1,000 years, historians will see the most transcendent artists of our era as The Beatles, Muhammad Ali, and Matt and Trey," Kent added. "We'll do as many seasons as they would like."

So, yes, expect to see South Park on your screens for the rest of your lives. In fact, it will probably outlive us all. Well, it's not going to run out of material any time soon, is it?

South Park airs on Comedy Central in the US.
