South Plains high school football top performers: Week 1
Here's a look at the best individual performances from high school football games in the South Plains.
Bax Townsend, QB, Lubbock Christian
Townsend picked up where he left off last season, completing 12 of 19 passes for 219 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in a win over Kermit. He also led the team with 14 carries for 158 yards and two TDs.
Caleb Clausen, ATH, Smyer
Clausen started the season with a bang, notching five TDs. He ran for 150 yards and four scores on 17 carries, adding a fumble-return TD in a win over Crosbyton.
Darryn Landrum, DB, Seminole
Landrum grabbed two interceptions in a win over Lovington, New Mexico. He also made two tackles.
Kendrick Nelson, RB, New Deal
Nelson ran for 182 yards and two TDs on 20 carries in a loss to Farwell.
Keith Ramirez, RB, Lubbock High
Ramirez was a nightmare for El Paso Socorro, rushing for 118 yards and three TDs on 10 carries.
Hebrew Hunter, WR, Monterey
Hunter had nine catches for 181 yards and a TD in an overtime loss to Odessa High.
Caton Cramer, WR, Seminole
Cramer hauled in three passes for 129 yards and two scores.
Blake Flowers, QB, Seminole
Flowers was 14-of-24 passing for 319 yards, four TDs and an interception.
Seth Mayberry, QB, Plainview
The freshman Mayberry completed 15 of 20 attempts for 236 yards, four TDs and no interceptions in Plainview's first season-opening win since 2006.
Alec Actkinson, QB, Farwell
Actkinson directed the Steers offense to the tune of 7-of-10 passing for 241 yards, four TDs and an interception in a win over New Deal.
Tyler Spruiell, QB, Lubbock-Cooper
Spruiell entered in the second half and sparked the Pirates offense. He finished 2-of-2 passing for 51 yards and a score, but most of the damage was on the ground. He ran for 110 yards and two TDs on 11 carries.
Alex Bocanegra, RB/LB, Sundown
Bocanegra led the team with 84 yards on eight carries, scoring a TD in a win over Shamrock. He also had 11 tackles (eight solo), including a sack.
Izaiah Alvarado, RB, Floydada
Alvarado ran 15 times for 98 yards and two TDs in a win over Ralls. He also caught three passes for 18 yards.
Cooper Ross, QB, Idalou
Ross did a little of everything in a win over Sweetwater. He was 8-of-15 passing for 116 yards and one TD, adding 47 yards and two scores on the ground. Ross also kicked a 27-yard field goal and dropped two punts inside the 20-yard line.
Malakhi Brisco, WR, Idalou
Brisco caught six passes for 107 yards and a TD.
Karomo Collins, WR, Plainview
Collins finished with eight catches for 105 yards and a TD, adding two rushes for 29 yards.
Dom Dominguez, RB, Snyder
Dominguez had three catches for 98 yards and a TD in a win over Slaton.
Cedric Ross, RB, Estacado
Caught three balls for 54 yards and one touchdown in a road win over Greenwood.
Bobby Ross, RB, Estacado
Carried the ball 24 times for 136 yards and one touchdown in a road triumph over Greenwood.
Devoryea Boyd, ATH, Estacado
Notched a game-changing 45-yard interception that he returned for a touchdown, while also making catching a 33-yard pass for a score to help the Matadors down Greenwood on the road. He also snared an interception to seal the game and first victory for head coach William Blaylock.
