South Salem High School defensive back Zach Wusstig commits to Portland State football

South Salem’s Zach Wusstig will be playing at the next level at Portland State.

The Saxons’ defensive back and wide receiver announced his commitment to the Vikings Monday on Twitter.

Wusstig was recruited as a defensive back by Portland State defensive backs coach Colin Fry.

“Coach Fry is an amazing coach, and I know he can and will help me grow as a player and man,” Wusstig said. “I just really felt at home at Portland State and could see myself there for four years.”

Wusstig helped South Salem go 8-2 this season and reach the first round of the OSAA Class 6A championship playoffs.

Wusstig had three interceptions on defense, and he had 43 catches for 728 yards. He scored 17 total touchdowns, and he was first-team all-league at both defensive back and wide receiver.
