The South Shore dining scene: Openings, new menus and more
October has been a busy month for some South Shore restaurants.
Long-anticipated places are opening, and some much-loved restaurants are adding new items or serving customer favorites in a new location.
While traditional New England fare is always a safe bet, places like the Bluefish River Tavern in Duxbury and Stevie G's in Rockland offer fresh takes on everything from flatbread to cocktails.

(And, don't miss other dining news − like did you hear what's happening at the old Squire's in Hanover? Or have you been to the place in Quincy that was named one of Bon Appetit's best new restaurants of 2023? Maybe you missed the controversy going on at a Quincy diner?)
Bluefish River Tavern now open in Duxbury
Bluefish River Tavern opened the end of September at the site of the former Milepost Tavern on Route 3A in Duxbury.
Erik Daigle, longtime general manager at East Bay Grille in Plymouth, runs the restaurant. He is also a former manager at The Fours sports bar in Quincy Center.
The menu includes steak, seafood, burgers and salads, all served in many ways and flavors. A variety of cocktails, both traditional and unique – jalapeno cucumber margherita, anyone? − await both the thirsty and the curious
Bluefish’s menu features a variety of flatbreads that includes BBQ chicken, fig and prosciutto, pepperoni, lobster boil and burrata.
The restaurant isn’t just for adults, though, as there are plenty of choices for kids that include traditional favorites such as burgers, grilled cheese, chicken fingers, pasta and fish and chips.
The restaurant also caters to late-night appetites, with the kitchen open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. It also offers online ordering

Stevie G's in Rockland adds dinner hours
Stevie G’s in Rockland is now serving dinner along with breakfast and lunch.
Dinner service, which started Oct. 5, is from 5-9 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Stevie G’s opened last year at the site of the longstanding Butterfield’s.
The restaurant is owned by Andrew and Matt Loconsolo and Andrew's wife, Shannon. The Loconsolo brothers first worked at Butterfield's as dishwashers when they were in high school.
While keeping much of Butterfield’s most popular items on the menu, the new owners have continued to innovate and expand its offerings with standout items such as cannoli pancake taco and the addition of a smoker to their kitchen that allows them to offer brisket that is slow cooked for 12 hours.
Stevie G’s has also carved out a niche for itself with its brunch offerings and cocktail list. It also offers a variety of “boozy coffee drinks,” as the menu calls them, such as spiked peanut butter coffee and espresso martinis.

KKatie's Burger Bar opens at former Papa Gino's in Plymouth
After much anticipation by local burger aficionados, KKatie’s Burger Bar opened its new location in Plymouth on Friday, Oct. 13.
"We can’t wait to see you all and share this with you," the restaurant posted on its Facebook page.
The restaurant closed its location at 38 Main St. Extension in downtown Plymouth on Oct. 9 as it prepared to open its new and larger location at 9 Samomet St., the former Papa Gino's site.
Renovations have been ongoing at the new location for several months.
Partners Kate McSorley and Keith Steiding opened their first location, the downtown Plymouth site, in 2010.
Since then, they’ve opened full burger bars in Marshfield and Hyannis, along with “express” locations in Manomet, Plympton and West Bridgewater.

Amorepas Kitchen opens in Quincy
The new Amorepas Kitchen run by Jordania Roach in the former Wollaston pastry shop Babycakes opened Saturday, Oct. 14.
Amorepas Kitchen’s website advertises desserts, charcuterie and custom gifts. The desserts include cake pops, cookies, fruit platters, chocolate-covered pretzels and, yes, cupcakes. The new bakery will also offer freshly baked breads, croissants, sandwiches and salads.
In a message posted to Facebook, Babycakes owner Mahriah Harrington had announced her Quincy closing, saying she will continue “to make sweet treats at our new location, The Merry Café," at 668 Broad St. in Weymouth. The Merry Café opened in the summer of 2022 and serves about 20 brewed regular or flavored coffees, 23 hard ice cream options, milkshakes, sandwiches and more.
“I’d like to thank everybody for their unconditional support over the last five years, especially through the pandemic,” she wrote.
Babycakes closed in early September.
The shop opened in 2007 by Quincy native and restaurateur Kerri Delaney, who now owns and operates Kilroy’s on the Square and 16 C on Cottage Street in Quincy Center. Delaney sold the bakery to Harrington in 2016. Harrington had worked at Babycakes for many years before taking over.
