South Terrebonne hires Aaron Babin as new football coach

South Terrebonne has named Aaron Babin as its new football coach, athletics director Nick Cenac confirmed Tuesday morning.

“We are excited about bringing Coach Babin on board,” Cenac said. “He’s got a ton of fire and we believe he’s going to move this program in the right direction.”

Babin, 34, spent the last three years as an assistant and offensive coordinator at Vandebilt Catholic. Before joining Vandebilt, he was an assistant coach at Central Lafourche for 10 seasons.

Babin, a Class of 2005 graduate at Central Lafourche and Lockport native, said he looks forward to working at South Terrebonne.

"It's an unbelievable feeling to be a head football coach and at such an amazing place like South Terrebonne," Babin said. "I think South Terrebonne is an amazing community and that comes out through their school. I look forward to the opportunity to build a program at ST."

Babin’s offense helped lead Vandebilt to a District 8-4A championship and a spot in the Division II state semifinals last year.

Babin will replace former South Terrebonne coach Archie Adams, who stepped down after two seasons and a 3-12 record.

Babin said he is ready to get to work in order to rebuild South Terrebonne's football program.

“My plan is to begin to install a complete program at ST,” Babin said. “We want to develop a complete student-athlete that is dedicated to being great not only on the football field but also in the classroom and in the community. If we as a football program take care of all the little details needed to prepare for a football game then success will follow.

“It is challenging to be good at football. You have to be committed, dedicated and disciplined and I as well as the staff at ST plan to model these characteristics as well as develop these traits within ST football players.”

Cenac said he looks forward to working with Babin. He was selected over two other applicants.

“With this only being our third football coach in the last 30-plus years, it was a big decision,” Cenac said. “I have full faith that Aaron is going to build this program the right way.”
