South Texas Underground Film Festival returns to Alamo Drafthouse. Here's the lineup.

One of Corpus Christi's film festivals returns to the Coastal Bend with features and short films Wednesday.

The South Texas Underground Film Festival, or STUFF, will celebrate its 10th event at Alamo Drafthouse for five days.

It is in the top 2% of best-reviewed film festivals on FilmFreeway, a website dedicated to helping filmmakers enter film festivals around the world.

Co-founders Mariella and Robert Pérez Jr. said the mission of the festival is to engage and inspire the community by screening films without discrimination, teaching the art of filmmaking and networking with fellow filmmakers.

Mariella Pérez said the event is Corpus Christi's only international film festival.

The married couple's background as filmmakers whose work has premiered at festivals inspired them to bring that experience to Corpus Christi.

Mariella Pérez said not all of the filmmakers are from Corpus Christi. She said some will be from Texas, out of state and even out of the country.

"STUFF is a platform for everybody," Mariella Pérez said. "We want the film community in Corpus to have that international platform. Showing support to these artists shows other filmmakers and film festivals that Corpus is a supportive community."

The lineup includes feature-length films, short films (including one that's 20 seconds) and even a web-series episode, with styles ranging from comedies and period dramas to experimental films and documentaries.

Educational workshops will return to the festival for the first time in a few years, Mariella Pérez said. From Friday through Sunday, there will be three seminars about budgeting, festival-going and screenwriting. The workshops are only available to those with a badge.

Badges will be $75 at the door and will provide access to all 14 blocks, which include all film submissions and workshops. Each block on its own is $10. Individual tickets can be purchased at drafthouse.com/corpus-christi.

Out of 800 submissions, 80 films will be shown. All films are not rated and viewer discretion is advised. For more information, visit stuftx.org.
