Premier League leaders Arsenal reverted to the starting XI which began last weekend’s win over Leeds for the visit to Southampton. Gabriel Martinelli was passed fit to start after illness meant he was only available to come off the bench during Thursday’s Europa League win over PSV Eindhoven.

Southampton top scorer Che Adams, who claimed the winner in the midweek victory at Bournemouth, dropped to the bench as one of three changes for the hosts. Lyanco, Ibrahima Diallo and Stuart Armstrong returned for Saints, with Kyle Walker-Peters out injured and the on-loan Ainsley Maitland-Niles ineligible against his parent club.

Arsenal draw their first game this season after Southampton held them to a 1-1 draw. The Gunners made a bright start to the game and led after just 11 minutes when Xhaka fired into the roof of the net from close range. Bazunu also made some great saves to deny Xhaka and Jesus. Southampton were the better side in the second half though, and Stuart Armstrong coolly slotted home to earn them a deserved point.
