Southbound drivers heading into Ventura County on Highway 101 were jammed Saturday by a lane closed for repairs.

As of 7:30 p.m. Saturday, southbound traffic was backed up past La Conchita and Rincon Point into Santa Barbara County, traffic maps showed. The slowdown had lasted through the afternoon.

One of two southbound lanes was apparently closed south of Mussel Shoals, according to the California Highway Patrol's dispatch office in Ventura.

Lanes are split in the area for several miles south of the Seacliff interchange due to a major pavement project.

The right lane was closed as a construction team worked to fix potholes, according to the CHP dispatch office. There was no estimate as to how long the closure would last.

The stretch is also having frequent overnight lane closures as part of the larger construction project.

The previous weekend, the same stretch backed up when mud closed the left lane of the split.
