SouthCoast high school scores and highlights from Thursday, May 19

Here's a look at the scores and highlights from Thursday's high school action on the SouthCoast.

BOYS LACROSSE

GNB Voc-Tech 6, Fairhaven 5

The Bears captured their first win over the Blue Devils in more than seven years. “Catching this victory on senior night is special, and something I hope these seniors remember moving forward,” said GNB Voc-Tech head coach Justyn Walker. “Senior Jack Lima played an unbelievable game in net, making key saves when we needed it most. Our defense played controlled and aggressive, especially in the last four minutes of the game keeping Fairhaven off the scoreboard to secure the win.” Voc-Tech was led offensively by Kaiden Pequita and AJ Pragana, who scored two goals apiece while Michael Murphy Jr. and Nathan Pearson each scored once. The Bears (4-11, 2-9 SCC) visit Blue Hills on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

Dartmouth 13, New Bedford 1

Baron Dutra had a hand in six goals for Dartmouth, scoring one and assisting on five more. Ian Emery led the way with three goals. Graham White scored two goals while Aidan Yim, Will Gagni (two assists), AJ Acosta, Jackson Hart, Will Chau, Ryan Falcon (four assists) and Jacob Grieve each scored once. Dartmouth visits Bishop Stang on Monday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Dartmouth 13, New Bedford 8

Dartmouth led 6-4 at the half before New Bedford cut the lead to 6-5 on a goal by Nora Blanchard, but Dartmouth responded by scoring three straight goals. New Bedford fought back with goals by Lexi Thompson and Hannah Blanchard. Kennedy Franklin scored with 9:18 to play to cut the lead to 9-8. Dartmouth scored the final four goals of the game for the 13-8 final. Meredith Sylvia led Dartmouth with five goals while Sorelle Lawton (assist) and Grace Haskell each had three goals and Ava Crane chipped in with two. Katie Lamothe had three assists while Hannah Sullivan and Sinclair Furlong each had one. Molly Rioux made 11 saves. For New Bedford, Nora Blanchard had three goals while Thompson had two. Reis, Hannah Blanchard and Franklin each had one goal. Georgia Logan had eight saves. New Bedford (8-4) hosts Bishop Stang on Monday at 5 p.m. Dartmouth (13-1-1, 3-0 SEC) hosts Whitman-Hanson on Saturday.

Fairhaven 19, GNB Voc-Tech 3

Carlie Francis recorded four goals while Neely Francis had three goals and two assists to lead a balanced offensive attack. Sophia Fleurent had two goals and an assist while Kathryn Isaksen and Sydney Burke each scored twice. Sophia Murray (assist), Sadie Hubert, Ireland Nordstrom, Sofia Torres, Olivia Turgeon and Malene Mattos had one goal apiece. Melandia Coutinho made five saves. The Blue Devils (8-7, 7-3 SCC) host St. John Paul on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

SOFTBALL

Seekonk 7, Fairhaven 6

Seekonk scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Gabriela Rocha-Medeiros struck out eight while allowing seven runs (one earned) off eight hits and four walks. She also had an RBI single. Jolie Ferro went 3-for-5 while Olivia Couto was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and Holly Perdigao was 2-for-4 with an RBI triple. Sydney Merusi, Ava Pepin and Cait Andre each added a hit. The Blue Devils (11-7, 7-4 SCC) hosts Case on Monday.

Wareham 16, Bishop Connolly 8

Laura Pinkston went 4-for-5 with a triple and RBI while Jenna Klemp was 5-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs. She also pitched four innings, allowing two earned runs off seven hits. Wareham also got contributions from Marina Cadena (triple and two RBIs), Ari Judge (double, RBI), Madison Nereu (3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs), Olivia LaCava (2-for-4 with an RBI), Amaya Anderson (2-for-5 with three RBIs and Carly Delgado (2-for-5 with an RBI). Nereu pitched three innings, allowing no earned runs off two hits. The Vikings (6-11, 1-11 SCC) host Bourne on Monday at 6:30 p.m. for Senior Night.

Case 9, New Bedford 0

The Whalers managed just two hits — one apiece from Ava Kaplan and Lily Gonet — as they suffered sixth loss of the season. New Bedford (11-6) hosts Bridgewater-Raynham on Monday.

BASEBALL

Fairhaven 2, Seekonk 1

Luke Gomes went four innings, allowing one run off three hits and two walks while striking out five. He also went 1-for-3 at the plate. Scott Joseph came in and sealed the deal by throwing 13 pitches in three innings. He got out of a second and third jam with no outs, getting the strikeout and then turning a double play on a line drive back to him. The Blue Devils got offensive contributions from Colby Correia (1-for-3 with two RBIs), Jarren Megan (1-for-3 with a run scored), Aiden Hassey (0-for-2 with a walk and run scored) and Connor Sorrel (1-for-2). The Blue Devils (10-6, 6-5 SCC) visit Case on Monday.

Taunton 8, New Bedford 0

Jordan Graham led New Bedford with two hits. The Whalers (4-13, 2-5 SEC) host Falmouth on Saturday at 11 a.m.
