SouthCoast high school scores and highlights from Wednesday, May 25

Here's a look at the scores and highlights from Wednesday's high school action on the SouthCoast.

BASEBALL

Fairhaven 5, Old Rochester 3

The Blue Devils wrapped up a share of the South Coast Conference Gold title, finishing as tri-champs with Seekonk and Case. Aiden Hassey went 2-for-4 with a run scored in addition to playing solid at shortstop. Cam Gordon was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored while Luke Gomes went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Jack Cunha was 1-for-4 with an RBI while Jarren Megan went 1-for-2 with a sac fly and RBI. Gomes came on in relief to start the second inning and went 3 2/3, allowing three earned runs off seven hits while striking out three to pick up the win. Scott Joseph pitched 2 ⅓ innings and came in with runners on first and second with two outs and got the strikeout for his third save in as many chances. “Since being moved up to varsity midway through the season, Joseph has been dynamite,” said Fairhaven head coach Rudy Bulgar, adding that Joseph has pitched in eight of the Blue Devils' last 10 games, totaling 19 innings pitched, allowing three earned runs with two walks and 11 strikeouts for a 1.10 ERA. For Old Rochester, Lucas McElroy went 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base in addition to pitching two innings of scoreless relief. Lucas Mello was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and suffered the loss, going five innings, allowing three earned runs with three walks and one strikeout. Brady Dias (triple), Ethan McElroy (1-for-3 with an RBI) and Owen Bates (single) also contributed offensively. The Bulldogs (9-9, 6-7 SCC) host Dartmouth on Monday. The Blue Devils (11-7, 7-6 SCC) visit Sandwich on Friday at 3 p.m.

Apponequet 2, Bourne 1

Nate Levesque had a big day at the plate, driving in a pair of runs, including the game-winner with two outs to give the Lakers a walk-off win in the seventh inning. His sacrifice fly staked Apponequet a 1-0 lead, but Bourne tied the game at 1 in the sixth. Levesque drove in Dylan Bradley in the seventh for the win. Connor Johnson pitched a complete-game, scattering six hits with seven strikeouts, no walks and one hit batsman. He also had a hit at the plate. Tanner Audyatis, Hayden Westgate and Bradley (two runs scored and three assists in the field) each had a hit for Apponequet (13-7, 7-6 SCC).

Bishop Stang 3, Bridgewater-Raynham 1

Down 1-0 in the top of the fifth, a collision at first base and a turned double play by Aidan Cardoza sparked the Spartans leading into the bottom half, where Cardoza doubled in Kaiden Peltier for the tying run. Justin Gouveia tripled in the winning run in the bottom of the sixth and scored on Cam Letourneau’s infield single to give the Spartans the 3-1 lead. Gouveia went 1-for-3 with a triple, RBI and run scored while Cardoza was 1-for-2 with a double and RBI. Peltier (2-for-3 with a run scored) and Jackson Tingley Prince (1-for-2 with a run scored) also contributed offensively. Seamus Marshall ran his record to 6-1 as he struck out seven while allowing one earned run off three hits with one walk on 80 pitches in seven innings. Stang (12-5) visits Apponequet on Monday at 2 p.m.

SOFTBALL

Fairhaven 13, Old Rochester 1, 5 Innings

Gabriela Rocha-Medeiros was strong on the mound for Senior Day as she struck out 10, walked none and allowed one run off three hits in five innings. Offensively, the Blue Devils were led by their six seniors. Olivia Couto was 2-for-3 with four RBIs while Ava Pepin was 2-for-3 with an RBI triple. Rocha-Medeiros was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Holly Perdigao was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Cait Andre and Katherine Tortella each had a hit. Fairhaven (13-7, 8-4 SCC) awaits the MIAA tournament seeding.

Apponequet 18, Bourne 8

Sarah DelVecchio started the game on the mound with a strong performance, only allowing four runs. Sofia Estrella finished in relief, allowing four more runs. Morgan Saraceno had a strong defensive and offensive performance, making game-changing plays and catches at center field and going 3-for-6 at the plate with three singles. Christina Magnett went 4-for-6 with two doubles and two triples. Madeline Polochick also had a hot bat, going 2-for-3 with a single and a triple. The Lakers (10-9, 7-7 SCC) host New Bedford on Friday.

BOYS LACROSSE

Apponequet 21, Bourne 4

Jake Cusson had a hand in six goals, scoring four and assisting on a pair. Vinny Olivieri and Kenny Wisniewski each had three goals and two assists while Harrison Lemieux added two goals and three assists. Sean DelGuidice and Justyn Hooper each scored three goals while Will Levrault, Josh Keller and Jake Flounders had one apiece. Hunter Owen made five saves. The Lakers (12-3, 8-3 SCC) host Dighton-Rehoboth on Friday for Senior Night.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Apponequet 17, Bourne 10

Riley Levrault notched a team-high seven goals while Abby Vincent added four and Emilia Keane chipped in with three. Abby Bradley had two goals while Celia Hiller had one. Allison Arruda made 10 saves. The Lakers (10-5) visit Dighton-Rehoboth on Friday.

Old Rochester 18, Fairhaven 7

Kelly Quinlan scored eight goals to surpass 100 for her career. Maddie Wright had seven goals and three assists while Rosemary Lally (three assists), Caroline Brogioli and Erin Cardinal each scored once. Tessa Winslow had seven saves. For Fairhaven (9-8, 7-4 SCC), Sophia Murray had three goals while Neely Francis and Kathryn Isaksen each had two. Fairhaven hosts Seekonk on June 2. The Bulldogs (17-2, 11-0 SCC) visit GNB Voc-Tech on Friday.

GIRLS TENNIS

Wareham 5, Westport 0

The Vikings improved to 20-0 with a sweep on Senior Day in which they honored six seniors. Warehgot wins from No. 1 Brooklyn Bindas (6-0, 6-0), No. 2 Saige Galhardo (6-0, 6-0), No. 3 Giuliana L’Homme (4-6, 6-0, 10-3), No. 1 doubles team of Mackenzie Brodley and Olivia Powers (6-0, 6-0) and No. 2 doubles team of Chloe Hogan and Allison Sciaraffa (6-1, 6-0).

Taunton 3, New Bedford 2

The Whalers got wins from No. 1 Emma Gibney (6-3, 6-2) and No. 2 Sofia Beltran Fuenzalida (6-0, 6-0), but lost their season finale to finish the year with a record of 2-16.

BOYS TENNIS

Dartmouth 5, Bishop Stang 0

In a continued match from a rainout, Dartmouth (15-2) got wins from No. 1 Justin Kerney 6-3, 6-0 over Elijah Swift, No. 2 Dylan Marshall 6-1, 6-0 over Brendan Resend, No. 3 Luke Bloom-Glover 6-2, 6-1 over Trevor Squire as well as the first doubles team of Kevin Leong and Charlie Camisa 6-4, 6-1 over Christopher Pacheco and Scott Carter and the second doubles team of Shreyas Rathod and Owen Nielson 6-0, 6-0 over Thomas Calvell and Matthew Carusi.

Westport 3, Wareham 2

In their season finale, the Vikings (4-17, 0-12 SCC) got wins from No. 2 Seamus Braley (6-1, 6-2) and the second doubles team of eighth graders Boon Oulette and Julian Garcia (6-4, 6-6 (7-5)).

Fairhaven 3, Case 2

Winning for the Blue Devils (13-5, 11-3 SCC) were No. 1 Kole Pinto (6-1, 6-4) and No. 3 Coby Yin (6-0, 6-0) and the first doubles team of Liam Reynolds and Chris Hu (6-2, 6-1).
