SouthCoast high school scores and highlights from Thursday, May 26

Here's a look at the scores and highlights from Thursday's high school action on the SouthCoast.

GIRLS TENNIS

Wareham 4, Nauset 1

The back-to-back South Coast Conference champion Vikings wrapped up their second straight undefeated season with the win over Nauset, finishing the regular season 21-0. No. 1 Brooklyn Bindas (6-0, 6-0) as well as the first doubles team of Mackenzie Brodley and Olivia Powers (6-2, 6-1) went undefeated on the year. Wareham also got wins from No. 2 Saige Galhardo (6-4, 6-3) and the second doubles team of Fredi Gakidis and Allison Sciaraffa (7-5, 6-0).

BOYS TRACK

Div. 5 Championship

Bishop Stang’s Jacob Cookinham threw 153-5 to capture the Division 5 discus championship at Weston High School. He won by three inches over the second-place throw. Andrew Fortin placed fourth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 60.1 to capture a medal and a chance to run at All-States. Both Cookinham and Fortin will compete again on Saturday. Cookinham is seeded first in the shot put while Fortin is slated to run the 400 and the 4x800 relay. Old Rochester’s Colby Gross took first in the 200 (22.89) at the Div. 5 meet. Old Rochester’s Sam Balsi and Gavin Martin came in fourth and sixth, respectively, in the pentathlon. Apponequet's Jackson Gagnier was third in the 400 hurdles (59.86).

Div. 6 Championship

Wareham’s Garrett Goodman came in second place in the discus with a 56-inch improvement on his personal best with a throw of 157-10. Ryker King took second in the pentathlon with a 148-point improvement for 2,752 points. Ben Brogioli came in fifth in the triple jump (40-03.75).

GIRLS TRACK

Div. 5 Championship

Old Rochester’s Jen Williams and Maggie Brogioli finished second and third, respectively, at the Div. 5 pentathlon. Both set a new school record in the high jump with identical jumps of 5-05.50. Fairhaven's Laura Hubert was ninth in the triple jump (34-00.75) while Apponequet's Meira Colley was fifth in the discus (92-04).

BOYS TENNIS

Fairhaven 4, Somerset Berkley 1

The Blue Devils swept singles action with wins from No. 1 Kole Pinto (6-3, 6-3), No. 2 Isaac Petruski (6-3, 6-3) and No. 3 Coby Yin (6-1, 6-1) in their regular season finale. Fairhaven’s first doubles team of Liam Reynolds and Chris Hu won 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). The Blue Devils (14-5, 10-3 SCC) await their tournament seeding.

SOFTBALL

Somerset Berkley 4, Dartmouth 2

Dartmouth opened up scoring in the first inning when Kalisa Pomfret singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. Somerset Berkley pulled away for good with two runs in the fourth inning. Megan Arruda took the loss for Dartmouth, allowing nine hits and four runs over six innings. Sofia Dias had a home run in the sixth inning. Pomfret led Dartmouth with two hits in three at bats. Dartmouth (8-11, 4-4 SEC) hosts Old Rochester on Monday at 11 a.m.

Wareham 14, Nauset 1, 15 Innings

Jenna Klemp threw a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts to surpass 100 strikeouts on the season. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Laura Pinkston (2-for-3 with three runs scored), Marina Cadena (2-for-4 with two RBIs), Madison Nereu (one hit, three RBIs), Olivia LaCava (one hit, RBI), Amaya Anderson (one hit, one RBI) and Carly Delgado (2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs) also contributed offensively. The Vikings (7-13, 1-13 SCC) await the tournament pairings.

BASEBALL

Somerset Berkley 3, Dartmouth 1, 9 Innings

Dartmouth stayed in it until the end on Senior Day, but Somerset Berkley pulled away late. The game was tied at one with Somerset Berkley batting in the top of the ninth when Landon Richardson's sac fly scored one run. Grayden Costa started the game for Dartmouth and went six innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out one. Aiden Martin took the loss as he went three innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out one and walking one. Chace Feno went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Dartmouth in hits. "We had opportunities, but poor execution and mental mistakes hurt us today,” said Dartmouth head coach Mike Frates. “We'll learn and get better. Give credit to Somerset, they played well.” Dartmouth (13-6, 7-1 SEC) visits Old Rochester on Monday at 11 a.m.
