SouthCoast high school scores and highlights from Monday, April 24

Here's a look at the scores and highlights from Monday's high school action on the SouthCoast.

BASEBALL

Old Rochester 9, Apponequet 8

The Bulldogs came out on top of a back and forth game against the Lakers in South Coast Conference action. ORR led 6-2 entering the top of the seventh inning, but the Lakers scored six runs to take an 8-6 lead. The Bulldogs responded by scoring three runs in the bottom half to capture the walk-off win. Jeff Radek, Jason Tobin and Colin Mello had three straight hits and Noah Borgiorno had the game-tying double. Aiden Lamontage singled in the winning run. “Very proud of the kids after giving up a comfortable lead in the seventh and never quit coming back in the seventh in a game we really needed,” said Old Rochester head coach Steve Carvalho.  Mello went 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs while Lamontage was 3-for-5. Borgiorno was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Alex Marsden (2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs), Radek (2-for-4) and Brady Dias (sac fly RBI) also contributed. Lamontage went 6.2 innings, striking out six. Borgiorno got the win, getting the last out in the seventh. Nate Levesque (three RBIs), Conor Trip (RBI), Peter Rubini (RBI) and Gabe Zuber (RBI) each had two hits for Apponequet while Dylan Bradley, Lucas Tremblay, Caiden Cyr (RBI) and Seth Richards (RBI) had one hit apiece. Apponequet (4-4, 3-3 SCC) travels to East Bridgewater on Wednesday. The Bulldogs (4-6, 3-3 SCC) visit Seekonk on Wednesday.

New Bedford 3, Brockton 1

The Whalers captured their second straight win thanks to a strong game by Joe Castelo on the mound and at the plate. He led the team with three hits, including a run-scoring double in the seventh. He also combined with Aaron Pimental for the win on the mound. Castelo pitched the first four innings and gave up Brockton’s only run. He struck out three and walked two. Pimental pitched the last three innings and struck out three while walking none. A’Jay Rivera had two hits, including a long two-run triple that gave the Whalers the lead in the top of the seventh inning. New Bedford (2-7, 1-0 SEC) hosts Dartmouth at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

GNB Voc-Tech 13, Dighton-Rehoboth 3

Coming into a tied game, Logan Ashley allowed one hit while striking out five over three innings to capture his first varsity win. He retired nine out of 11 batters. Cam Cabral led the offense, going 2-for-2 with three runs scored, a grand slam and five RBIs. Boston Bettencourt was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI while Nathan Roderiques was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Ashley and Dylan Leung each had their first varsity hits. The Bears (5-3, 4-3 SCC) visit Apponequet on Friday.

Case 6, Wareham 2

Jason White went 2-for-3 while Isaac Strawn was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Wareham (0-8, 0-7 SCC) visits Fairhaven on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

SOFTBALL

New Bedford 17, Brockton 5

Hayleigh Chenard went the distance, allowing five runs (two earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out nine. She also hit a three-run home run in the third to give the Whalers the lead for good after trailing 3-0. Freshman Ivy Mattos had four hits (two singles, one double and one triple) and four RBIs while Sophia Perry had three hits and an RBI. JJ Greene (two hits and three RBIs) and freshman Maura McEvoy (two hits and two RBIs) also contributed. New Bedford (4-2, 1-0 SEC) hosts Dartmouth on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Dighton-Rehoboth 13, GNB Voc-Tech 0

Hayleigh Silva went 2-for-3 while Ana Tsonis, Genesis Nunes, Savanah Dubois and Zoe Teixeira each had a hit. Silva took the loss, giving up 12 runs on 12 hits over four innings. The Bears had five errors. Voc-Tech (5-4, 2-3 SCC) visits Middleboro on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m.

Seekonk 13, Fairhaven 0, 4.5 innings

Cassidy Saucier, Jolie Ferro and Kennedy Allian each had a hit for Fairhaven. The Blue Devils (1-7, 1-5 SCC) visit Wareham on Friday.

Bridgewater-Raynham 10, Dartmouth 0

Dartmouth managed just three hits — one apiece from Kalisa Pomfret, Hannah Garcia and Desirae Paiva. Dartmouth (4-3, 0-1 SCC) visits New Bedford on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Case 15, Wareham 1

Jossalyn Anctil went 2-for-2 with a run scored while Olivia LaCava and Marina Cadena both went 1-for-2. The Vikings (0-7, 0-7 SCC) host Fairhaven on Friday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Apponequet 15, New Bedford 11

Jayleigh Haworth and Celia Hiller had four goals apiece to lead Apponequet to victory. Emilia Keane and Cece Levrault had three goals each and Abby Bradley had one goal. Addie Taylor had five assists. Alison Arruda had eight saves in net. For New Bedford, Tatum Reis had five goals while Vanessa Bucha added three goals and one assist. Lexi Thompson had two goals and Audrey Sousa had one. Anette Bennett-Tucker made three saves. The Whalers (3-2) host Fairhaven on May 1. The Lakers (5-2) host Bourne on Wednesday.

Dartmouth 10, Fairhaven 8

Ava Crane had a hand in eight goals, scoring six and assisting on a pair as Dartmouth handed Fairhaven its first loss of the season. The game was tied at eight with nine minutes to play. Grace Haskell added two goals while Sarah Kelly (assist) and Madison Goldizen (assist) had one goal apiece. Kayla McGee had three assists while Isabel Fera and Kallie Rose had one assist apiece. Courtney Cabral made 12 saves. For Fairhaven, Kaylei Joseph, Sophia Murray and Sydney Burke each had two goals while Carlie Francis and Sophia Fleurent had one apiece. Melandia Coutinho made seven saves. Dartmouth (7-1, 2-0 SEC) visits North Attleboro on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Fairhaven (5-1, 5-0 SCC) visits Old Rochester on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

BOYS LACROSSE

Fairhaven 11, Dartmouth 5

Barrett Becotte (assist), Hugo Surprenant and Owen Centeio each had three goals while Cameron Burke added two goals and one assist. Jarrod Frates had five assists. Shea Cripps made 11 saves. For Dartmouth, Graham White and Lennox Massucco each had two goals while Andrew Sousa added one. Ray Gramlich added an assist. JT Charrier made 16 saves. The Blue Devils (4-4, 2-3 SCC) host Old Rochester on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Old Colony 12, South Shore 10

Brody Darling scored two goals for the undefeated Cougars. Old Colony (8-0, 8-0 MAC) hosts Dartmouth on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.

BOYS TENNIS

Apponequet 5, Seekonk 0

The Lakers (5-0, 4-0 SCC) swept singles action with wins from No. 1 Will Horton (6-2, 6-1), No. 2 Nate Belmore (6-0, 6-0) and No. 3 Judson Cardinali (6-2, 6-0). The first doubles team of Jason Demers and Ethan Clark won 6-2, 6-2 while Nathaniel Kumlin and Jake Correia were 6-1, 6-0 winners at No. 2.

GIRLS TENNIS

Apponequet 3, Seekonk 2

Kohana Fontinha won 6-4, 6-2 at first singles while Jillian Maher captured a 6-3, 6-7-6-1 win at third singles in a match that lasted three hours. The first doubles team of Liz Ashley and Jolie Decas won 7-5, 6-2.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Brockton 3, New Bedford 1

Nick Rosa led the Whalers with 16 kills while Dilson DaCosta Teixeira had 14. Carter Barbosa had 39 assists and 13 digs. Connor Silva had 22 digs while Ronis Ayala added 13 digs. New Bedford (4-3, 1-1 SEC) visits Taunton on Wednesday.

Cambridge Rindge & Latin 3, GNB Voc-Tech 0

The Bears suffered their first loss of the season. Curran Farnworth had a team-high six kills while Colin Stuessi added four. Camden Morin had four kills and three blocks. Tayshaun Andrade had 10 digs. “The Bears fought hard, but came up short,” said Voc-Tech head coach Richie Gomes. Voc-Tech (4-1, 2-0) visits North Quincy on Wednesday.
