SouthCoast high school scores and highlights from Monday, April 3

Here's a look at the scores and highlights from Monday's high school action on the SouthCoast.

BOYS LACROSSE

Bishop Stang 5, Dartmouth 4

The Spartans used a balanced offensive attack with a goal apiece from Breck Marshall, Andrew Weaver, Jacob Micutowicz, Andrew Lally and John Goll. Will Sanders had a strong game in net, making 16 saves. “The Spartans’ goalie played a great game in net making a bunch of really nice saves,” said Dartmouth head coach Mark Rossi. “We certainly had our chances, but that goalie came up big time and time again.” For Dartmouth, Jackson Hart, Andrew Sousa, Graham White and Jackson Massucco each had a goal. Stang (2-0) travels to Cardinal Spellman on Wednesday. Dartmouth (0-1) visits Middleboro on Thursday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Dartmouth 13, Bishop Stang 6

Ava Crane erupted for nine goals and one assist to power Dartmouth to a season-opening victory. Grace Haskell added three goals and one assist while Sarah Kelly had one goal and two assists. Kayla McGee had three assists and Kallie Rose and Madison Goldizen each had one. Courtney Cabral made six saves. For Stang, Ava Jackson and Sydney Plouffe each had three goals. Bella Batista made 14 saves. Dartmouth (1-0, 0-0) hosts Bridgewater-Raynham on Thursday. The Spartans (1-1, 0-0) host Cardinal Spellman on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

SOFTBALL

GNB Voc-Tech 18, Old Rochester 0, 5 innings

Ana Tsonis went 4-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs scored as the Bears opened the season in dominant fashion. Ava Neno also went 4-for-5 and had three RBIs and one run scored. Hailey Soares was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored while Zoe Texeira was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Hayleigh Silva was solid on the mound, allowing four hits and no runs while walking one and striking out six over five innings. The Bears had 20 hits. Voc-Tech (1-0, 1-0 SCC) visits Apponequet on Wednesday.

Seekonk 18, Wareham 3, 5 innings

Marina Cadena went 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored in a season-opening loss for Wareham. Madison Nereu was 1-for-2 with a run scored and Jolee Anderson was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. The Vikings (0-1, 0-1 SCC) visit Old Rochester on Wednesday.

BASEBALL

Old Rochester 4, GNB Voc-Tech 1

Aidan Lamontage picked up the win, allowing five hits with five strikeouts and no walks in five innings. The run was unearned. “Lamontage pitched a gem, having command of his pitches and mixing his curveball in very well, keeping them off balance without a walk,” said Old Rochester head coach Steve Carvalho. “He also pitched out of a few tough jams. Very proud of him and the team.” Alex Marsden picked up the save, striking out two over the sixth and seventh innings. Noah Bongiorno (stolen base), Brady Dias (RBI), Gage Beauchemin and Jeff Radek (RBI) each had a hit. For Voc-Tech, Nolan Hoffler went five innings, allowing four hits and no earned runs with four strikeouts. Jordan Perez went 2-for-3 while Noah Mello, Chase Lagoa, Jhaden Reis and Boston Bettencourt each had one hit. The Bears (0-1, 0-1 SCC) host Apponequet on Wednesday. The Bulldogs (1-0, 1-0 SCC) visit Wareham on Wednesday.

Fairhaven 12, Dighton-Rehoboth 4

Luke Gomes was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits and two earned runs while walking two and striking out five over 4.1 innings. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs and one run scored. Scott Joseph pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out three. “Good start on offense had a lot of hits but made some mistakes on defense,” said Fairhaven head coach Rudy Bulgar. “Not bad for the first game, especially a conference game.” Aiden Hassey (1-for-3 with a walk, RBI), Connor Sorrel (1-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases), Tyler Mahon (2-for-3 with a double, walk and two runs scored), Colby Correia (2-for-4 with two run scored, two stolen bases and three RBIs), Jarren Megan (0-for-1 with three walks and three runs scored), Ethan Nault (1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored) and Gavin Fletcher (2-for-4 with two RBIs) contributed offensively. The Blue Devils (1-0, 1-0 SCC) host Bourne on Wednesday.

Seekonk 8, Wareham 0

Brayden Brophy went 1-for-3 with a double while Junie Suarez was also 1-for-3 in Wareham’s season opener. The Vikings (0-1, 0-1 SCC) host Old Rochester on Wednesday.

Somerset Berkley 13, Apponequet 0

Dylan Bradley, Lucas Tremblay and Conor Tripp each had a base hit for Apponequet in a season-opening loss. “The Lakers were playing from behind right away in the first inning and could not muster any offense in a well-played game by Somerset Berkley,” said Apponequet head coach Jim Cabucio. The Lakers (0-1, 0-1 SCC) visit GNB Voc-Tech on Wednesday.

Whitman-Hanson 9, New Bedford 1

Marquize Gonsalves, A’Jay Rivera and JT Goodine had the Whalers’ only hits. Rivera singled, stole second base and scored on Goodine’s single. Jarren Goodine hit the ball hard three times but had nothing to show for it. Jayden Sylvia was a victim of sloppy fielding but threw the ball well. Aaron Pimental also threw well and allowed just one earned run. Nolin Martin finished the game with two scoreless innings. “The Whalers started four sophomores and three juniors and expect some early season troubles,” said New Bedford head coach John Seed. “Once we gain a little more experience, I’m sure we’ll be much improved.” The Whalers (0-1, 0-0) host Somerset Berkley on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

GIRLS TENNIS

Bishop Stang 5, Seekonk 0

The Spartans (1-0) swept singles action with wins from No. 1 Lexy Wynn (6-0, 6-1), No. 2 Katherine Johnson (6-1, 6-0) and No. 3 Sarah Pothier (6-0, 6-0). It was the first varsity match for Johnson, a freshman. In doubles, No. 1 Charlotte Sisson and Julia Downey won 6-1, 6-1 while the No. 2 team of Lilly Manning and Holly Eyre captured a 6-1, 6-0 win.

New Bedford 3, Bishop Connolly 2

The Whalers (1-0) swept singles action with wins from No. 1 Emma Gibney (6-0, 6-0), No. 2 Jalysa Noriega (6-2, 6-4) and No. 3 Maria Oliveira (6-1, 6-1).

BOYS TENNIS

Bishop Stang 5, Seekonk 0

The Spartans (1-0, 0-0) swept singles action with wins from No. 1 Brenden Resende (6-3, 6-1), No. 2 Cheis Pacheco (6-0, 6-1) and No. 3 Thomas Clavell (6-0, 6-0). The first doubles team of Trevor Squire and Matt Carusi won 6-1, 6-0 while Patrick Murray and Stephen O’Neil were 6-4, 6-2 winners at No. 2.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

North Quincy 3, New Bedford 0

Nick Rosa led the Whalers in a 25-17, 25-15, 25-17 loss with seven kills. Connor Silva had six service points and Davon Centeio chipped in with seven digs. New Bedford (1-1, 0-0) visits BCH High on Wednesday.
